I pray that they decide to build the building without a hole. It looks muck sleeker that way.

^ Hasn't it been said numerious times that the hole is needed to reduce to the force from the wind on the building? The hole is not just to look good, it needs to be there.

Why on some drawings, the hole became a square?

The drawings r old rendering. It has remodelled to square hole recently. Public outcry and political influence had forced the design to be changed.

Brief construction history:

1997 – SWFC project site was officiated launched.

Early 1998 – Asian financial crisis and China overheating economy in 1997 halted the construction.

2003 – SWFC revived back after 6yrs of deferment. Construction progress was intermittent. Criticism on the design start surfaced in Shanghai and elsewhere.

2004 – Public bidding for a totaled US$ 1.1 billion project. CSCEC and Shanghai Construction Group won the US$ 481 million contract as general contractor, marking Chinese firms' first success in bidding for a foreign-funded major project.

January 2005 – Foundation mat is completed.

October 2005 – New design unveiled. Circular shape on top was remodeled to square hole. Construction scheduled would be shortening. To be completed upon Beijing Olympic 2008.

November 2005 – Full scale construction begin. 4.5 days for each floor.
