It looked like back in the 70's that The city only went as far south as Woden.

Yeah - I think it goes in this order - Queanbeyan (originally), South Canberra, North Canberra (30s), Woden (60s), Weston Creek, Belconnen (70's), Tuggeranong (80's), Jerrabomberra, Gunghalin (90's, 2000s), still to be developed: Stromlo and Majura

I've also posted these in the Best Night Shot of Each City thread, but thought it'd be worthwhile putting them here too:

Wide shot looking down Anzac Parade to Parliament House:

Narrower shot, as above:

Parliament House from Red Hill, with Anzac Parade and the War Memorial in the top right:

Civic (CBD) from Mt Ainslie:

Russell Offices (Department of Defence) from Red Hill:

War Memorial and Anzac Parade:

The Carillon:

The Carillon and surrounding park:

Huge panorama of Woden:

Developments coming off Northbourne for density. More of this needed.

I totally agree, this is the way forward for central Canberra and other designated high density parts of the city. Maybe when the population reaches 500,000+ we will see a more realistic time to raise the skyline higher but till then, well this and many more of its ilk will do very nicely.

I like the nod towards art deco in this particular building too and would also like to see it or at least some future developments perhaps integrated into a whole street of similar level/looking buildings to create more continuity. This would make the higher density areas less "bitty".

I live near to this development and walk past it most days.

Its being built on a very small lot. Will be interested to see
how this comes out. That area of Turner has a lot of nice
apartment developments which have been recently built
and this building should compliment them well.

Well, they've got fencing around the site.

But no demolition on the two houses behind the fencing.

This is one project I really want to see go ahead.

Demolition on the two houses looks to be underway.

The site has been fenced off but idle for a long time
but now there are signs of action.

Basic groundwork is underway on this.

The site was dormant for a long long time - but it looks like
it's on it's way finally.

The big black one also has shops and cinemas and parking below... then it's all tax dept... the other two cranes to the right are also building 11 floors of tax with shops at bottom.

The two cores on this one are now at level 7....

The hammerheads in centre of the picture.. thats MARCUS Clarke street and 6 story job on London Circuit...

And the new bit of green building on left of CBD.. thats Dept of Tourism etc that opens next week.
