A good case is Japanese cars. Many Japanese cars that were exported to the middle east had a route they would go with. From say Iraq port --> Saudi Arabia Port --> Egypt Port -->> Israel Port -->> Europe Port they would go. Arabian customs were asked to go on the vessel. If they saw that there were documents or tags that said Destination: Israel, they would immediately refuse entry for the cars. Japanese were worried, especially companies like Dhaitsu. Others levied and agreed to it since Israel was 3 million people and the arab world was 200 million+. Some companies like Dhaitsu managed to get out of that by making up fake slips and putting an imaginary state that didnt exist as Israel in order to confuse Arab customs. It worked very well...but the damage was done.. |

If I'm not mistaken (digging way back into my 'vault'), I believe that there was at least one manufacture, selling vehicles in Israel, who was threatened by an Arab boycott. They got around this by importing CKDs, which were assembled in Israel. This apparently satisfied the Arabs, as they reasoned that the Israeli assembled cars, would not be coming off the same line as the those sold in their own countries. Having said that, currently the Egyptians (for example) have no problem assembling the same Jeeps being built in Israel. ~BG |

The taxes in Israel are high in nearly everything and especially cars compared to the US and west Europe.

In addition, it is very easy to get cramped and uncomfortable, if you do not often stop to stretch. Try to avoid long stretches of roads that are barren of petrol stations, hotels or restaurants.

You're young and sexy! My dad had a 1986 Subaru in Israel. Why is Subaru so popular? |

It was cheap and raliable. In the 80's Israel was Subarus second largest market in the world (after USA). Subaru are still making great relaible cars but not cheap like they used to be any more. Subaru Legacy (B4 as it called in Israel) is very raliable and confortable car but too expensive. Same with Impreza (B3). |

I like the old Subies (certain newer ones too) because they are tough as nails, which explains their popularity and the amount of 'beaters' around here. However, my wife -who is from Taiwan- dislikes them, because they have a poor reputation in her homeland .BTW, no need to bash Hyundai (or sister Kia) as they've come a loooooong way in terms of design, quality and reliability over recent years . ~BG |

The problem in Israel however is that people here behave like a "herd" when it comes to cars... |

Ironically...Honda Civics since 2008...and more to the point of 2010 are really bad quality.... their body is really bad and now their system is garbage as well.....
I'd stay away from them, even though they cost more and they promise that the value wont go down........ In Canada a civic would end up costing someone 18,000-20,000 and by year 3-4 you can see it go down to maybe 15,000.... which is not bad ... |
