I think its inevitable that something will happen over the station, I was under the impression that eventually all of the tracks in that area would be covered with buildings to link up with countess st, its a bit of an eyesore at the moment, especially noticable now that Parklands is finished. As for the station itself, it kind of looks like it belongs in the country, not linked to a big concrete and black glass monolith of a building. But then, I would like to see all stations in Brisbane have a really modern upgrade to bring them inline with the bus stations.

Back to topic tho, these two buildings are a great start and the improved street appeal for Roma St, the first point of call for many visitors to Brisbane, is long overdue.

Since there is a plant room above the last office level at 24, shouldn't the building be 25 levels? Anyway, total office space in each tower is 34,750sqm (or a total of 69,500sqm) so this development is pretty decent. The reorganisation, the first real upgrade since the centre was built in the 80's, should make is a much better facility. The close up of the cladding a few pages ago isn't for the proposed towers - it's for the two black office towers, which are to be reclad in 'natural colours'. The explanation for why seems to be that dark buildings don't fit Brisbane.....

The Holiday Inn will be left as is.

Lots of shots of the renders we have seen.

Also showed the property council saying the city desperately needs new office towers.

They also showed rendering of a 44 storey tower on Queen Street which looked decent I forget which one it was, render look different, as well as renderings of the Transit Centre towers. Said if the towers are approved construction would start next year (didn't say which ones or if they meant all of them).

So in any case, looking good for Empire Square!
It also stated that these towers have 'peliminary approval'. Hopefully full approval will follow soon.

Keep in mind that the first stage of this project is the redevelopment of the station and re-cladding of the existing towers - the new towers may not start for several years.

For some reason in Prime Site today, they were talking about the development just getting preliminary approval this week. Whatever the case it looks like she'll be built!

So the whole bus ramp and carpark will be demolished for this development?

I'm finding it hard to visualise inside my head how the busways will run parallel to the train lines. So are they going to build the busways beside the current train tracks by demolishing the platforms that aren't currently being used. Or are all the train tracks and the new busways going to 'shift' to a completely new spot?

And what will be built in the place where the current car parks and bus ramps stand as shown in the photo above??

Any renders anyone??

Judging from what I have seen, it will also incorporate the Inner Northern Busway into it as well as redevelop the Interstate Bus Station in the basement.

Just when I thought this was over.....

Resubmission.

The plan has changed from 2 towers to 1.

A nice comparison that emphases the good points of this chage.

1) the new building is taller, at 34 levels and 139m to roof (=151-12) with those white structures pushing the building past 140m
2) much nicer design for the tower, though very bulky....70,000sq m.
2) no more psycho technicolour base

Can someone change the thread title and correct emporis.
