nice comparison, but the first 3 visible floors on the actual construction should be underground. Right? still, it does give one the idea. And it will be at least 12 floors to the first setback. The first setback will be the nose cone segment which is only approaching ground level.

The floor plates are rising, but you will not be able to see the curved floor elements until the floors rise above ground level. Notice that in the central core you don't see the protruding floor elements until the 8th level. That's the level at which the expanded concourse gives way to the tower itself.

So little of it has been realized thusfar in 2005. 2006 will be a great year to see big changes, probably the podium will be filled in and the concourses will be built in 2006.

I think the core is not quite that big.

The first 3 plateau, "setbacks" will be reached with the end nose sections and as they are way behind the rest of the concrete shuttering platforms, we won't see these untill early next year. Probably end of February.

from today's news

Armani Hotels will showcase Casa luxury
By Mark Johnson, Business Editor

Dubai: The world's first Armani-branded hotel is currently under construction at the site of the Burj Dubai tower in what will come to be known as Downtown Dubai, when the development is completed in 2008.

Giorgio Armani said the shift into the hotels business was a logical next step in the development of Armani Casa, the company's brand of luxury interior furnishings.

"We started the Armani Casa brand about five years ago and in that time it has evolved quite a bit, and what better publicity could we give the Casa range than to show it in a hotel room designed completely with Armani Casa products," he said.

Armani said there was one very good reason behind choosing Dubai as the site for the first hotel.

"Dubai is the new New York. It's the New York of the 21st century," he said.

However, he said a critical factor in sealing the deal was the having a local partner who was willing to give the designer a free hand in the look and feelof the hotel.

"We were very fortunate to be given a white slate from the construction partner, as far as the design was concerned, and to me that was extremely attractive," he said.

Another attraction of going into partnership with Emaar, was that it wanted to develop more than just hotel, he said.

"The offer was extremely interesting because it was not just one hotel, but a series of hotels and resorts across the world with very strong partners."

In all, Emaar and Armani plan to develop eight branded hotels and two resorts under the Armani banner. So far plans have been announced for hotels in London, New York and Shanghai.

Good news, as it's good for Emaar, and we are likely to see more projects coming from them in the future, not only in Dubai.

The part constructed should be a bit smaller since the edge of the wings hasn't been built and is only on the 2nd floor

just a question guys. What will be the highest lift run in the tower? looking at plans, it has the highest straight elevator ride up to observation dek/club on lev 147 or 520m apprx.
above this you wil have to change to alternate skyrise lift chamber.
That must also be a engineering concern? if you goning to have these supertalls, you would need to be able to actually access the upper floors in one elevator ride or multiple?
