Great! Wasn't the (400+) Tour Sans Fins approved in the '90s?

This is excellent news, La Defense is far enough away from the real heart of Paris to be seen as another city (psychologically speaking) and I don't think there'd be too many problems getting this approved.

On another note, La Defense really needs some livening-up- the area feels quite sterile, and built without too much thought for pedestrians in mind. Hope they can do something about this too!

Cheers

It was approved indeed.
In fact its construction never started. The project was abandoned because it was not easily viable in a very tense market back in the early 1990s.

Strange you think that, as La Défense is actually exclusively pedestrian (the cars, trains, subways and trams pass under the surface concrete slab. Anyway, a 6000 seat concert hall and a 16 movie theater multiplex will be built while the huge mall "Les quatres-temps" is being refurbished, so I think La Défense will be soon more "pedestrian friendly" and lively than ever.

I'm not sure, we have had a 300m+ tower in Paris for nearly 120 years! Of course, it would certainly be way too tall for London, where you only "broke the 200m barrier" in the end of the XXth century...

Please avoid the "My **** is bigger than yours" contest here. This is NOT the subject of the thread.

I think LD needs taller towers but i think 400m is too much, it will make the towers around it look small and tiny.

Since nearly 1,000,000 square meter offices will be built, some towers in the 200-250 range should be built and therefore do a transition between the current towers (the tallest is 187m...) and the projected 400m tower.

Eiffel tower shouldnt really be classed as a skyscraper though. It is a landmark, but it is completely different to what we would call a skyscraper.

And even if you want to class it as a skyscraper, it is surrounded by nothing tall at all.

Atleast if london wanted to build 400m the towers surrounding it would be more than half the size, unlike in La Defense

Yeah as said before, la defense needs a taller tower but it will nake the towers around it look stupid as they arent even half the size. I think they are gonna have to build up a bit more around there first.
