i meant that london having a lot of projects and approval made paris jealous and london ,madrid or moscow projects are probably the main reason why they decided this 400m tower in paris..

do you see french people posting in the LBT thread and posting crap about the office space in paris?
It looks like this project is backed by government finance. In the UK the Government won't even build a bus shelter without corporate sponsorship. A 400m tower does not make economic sense so London will never have one. So to the UK lot it appears the French aren't playing by our rules. But they are our rules so why should they!?.....Well that's how I see it.

Well, indeed we play with our rules in France. We're still (at least supposed to be) a sovereign country.

We have this cultural thing that ambitious projects need support to avoid interesting subjects to disapear (LGV, bridges and so on). If they decided to plan a 400m tower, they have their reasons and have studied the situation (well I hope they did).

We could have lots of 400m+ towers in the coming decade, basically because we need them (see London's post) We need 9,000,000 square meters by 2016. The biggest proposal we have (in terms of floor space) is Minerva at 90,000 square meters. It would take 100 Minerva buildings, at 220m each!

I seriously think it would make more sense to build TALL in London, and i dont just mean 300 or 400m tall. Even though i dont see anything higher than about 500m in the next few decades, i can see something HUGE proposed before the olympics in 2012.

Ever since we got the olympics(and im not trying to brag about that guys the whole of the UK has been garunteed improvement in many areas. The residential market has REALLY picked up, we have started 5 100m+ towers, and enabling work starts on the shard next month.

The olympics are going to bring lots of buissness to London. 9,000,000 square meters by 2016 sounds about right to me!

But still, good for Paris!

Is it true what people are saying on here, that this supposed 400m tower thing is goverment funded??? Is this normal in Paris? becus in London, the goverment never (not to my knowledge at least) funds the new skyscrapers. Its always various companies who decide to build and pay for new buildings (with permission of course), now more then ever these days, as London seems to be the hot property for skyscrapers at the moment.

Correct me if I'm wrong about all this by the way, cus I'm running on assumed information.

I just didn't think France's econemy was quite up to paying for a whole new batch of skyscrapers; from recent sources (or cud be just rumours) I heard that the econemy was suffering a bit. Again, please corrct me if u think i'm wrong here.

Jealous?....jealous of what?.

No amount of 400m towers will change the fact that London is nearly 3 times the size of Paris in the financial sector.

London is, and will remain, the largest and preminent capital of Europe.

In fact, i dont think this will even get built and has probably only been thought up by some Parisian who is pissed off at all the construction work about to start in London.

The only real rival London has is New York, London left Paris far behind in the 19th century.

And they still lost the Olympics in 2012....

Who cares about London here? It's a thread on the next Parisian tower.

Nope, we're emerging out of a crisis, unemployment decreased for the 7th consecutive month. Growth will be higher than expected (we reached the predictions for 2005 by "The Economist" polls month ago and all the rest is now pure benefits) and the same newspaper seems to think France might growth more in 2006 than UK (I don't have it, but someone posted an article from it showing this tendency).

I think we're in a good context to build scrapers.

I'm rooting for you paris. Good luck with this tower.

Tour sans fin was a beautiful design. Something like that would be awesome.
No, it is a political decision that decided that 850 000 m² will be built in La Défense with a 400 m tower. But it's not the government that will finance it. EPAD is the state owned organism that manage the site but it does not own the buildings. They are the property of private companies that invest in the buildings.

It is real estate companies that will invest in this project and if EPAD announced a 400 m towers, that mean there are some investissors that believe in this project and that are to finance it.

Bloody channel tunnel. Who contaminated who? Parisians and Londonians seem to be in the same league of modesty.
