Yes indeed. La Défense authority, the EPAD, doesn't look really to break any record (outside maybe to build something higher than the Eiffel Tower). It's more a matter of international visibility of La Défense.

I'm very satisfied by the EPAD actually. In a country having no ambition anymore such as France, it makes feel better to see few people still looking forward.

What about the Federation Towers in Russia? Won't it get over 400m? With a spire of course, but do we know if this future tower in La Defense will get a spire?

Not quite, it says by 2015 - I expect many major European cities by that time to be producing 400m towers, London, Frankfurt, Istanbul and Warsaw by then should have a few in the planning process.

However this is much needed for Paris, I hope it wont stand out like a sore thumb, because the lay-out of La Defense is probably the best anywhere in the world.

It also needs to be unique, something which will rival the Eiffel Tower as the king of the city.

Good luck, expect to see some renders in the near future.

Yeah, by the time this begins most of the big european cities will have 400m+ on the cards. I expect London to have atleast one more supertall by the time the decade is up.

The thing is that so far, Paris is the only one with a 400m+ on the cards, and by 2015, it will be probably either built or UC, so trying to make the whole thing look like a small news is kinda "low". It's like saying "yeah you know, the LBT is nice, but Paris has a 400m tower on the card, and by the time LBT is built, most of the big european cities will have something taller".

@le lyonnais du 81 : Paris never left

Paris is advancing slowly but never stops while other cities tend to be either booming either stagnating, but in the end the results are the same.

Good for them!

When i see a neighbor getting something i wish i had, i don't get green with envy, i'm just content to be happy for what they get.
I wish the analogy was true here.
Go london, paris, frankfurt, Warsaw and any other city in between, no one is more or less deserving than the other in any imaginable field.
I have said!

Great news for Paris i hope it will look amazing, ignore anyone who have posted anti-views of this project... they won't admit it but its like typical sibling envy or somthing, instead of being happy for them and happy for their own things. We are Europeans and anything great happening in paris is great for me! i think London and Paris are both have equal importance to Europe and should use their rivalry to push for better worldclass skyline than one another, a healthy competition never hurts anyone

Huh! ... people dont half take things out of context. If you read properly I merely state that any city can say were gonna built a 400m tower, its wether or not they get round to doing it.

I love La Defense, I just hope the Eiffel Tower stays the gem of the city. its to good to be overshadowed

Warsaw has a very strong lobby against highrises. I don't see any 250 + scraper in that city within the next decade.
Istanbul lies in the earthquake zone, Frankfurt doesn't need so much office space to plan 400 m scraper.
If such a super tall is being to rise up in Europe, it will be built only in Paris, London or Madrid, I think.

A 400 m tower standing in La Defense will not have any impact on Eiffel Tower, which is situated far away from LD. It won't be "overshadowed" in any meaning of this word.

I'm not sure if Paris should really be happy with this. A 400 meter tower is way to dominating compard to the other buildings. 250 meters in La Défence would look much better proportioned!

But it's been said already that there will be a few other towers 200 - 250 built too in LD, to fill the gap between present 185 towers and the future 400 m one.

Even if it would "only" look like this, without the other additional towers, I'd personally find it a f***king impressive skyline.
