A world-class terminal will be commissioned at the Kozhikode airport in March, a senior official said. Airport officiating director V S P Chinson said 95% of the civil work has been completed and the terminal was fast nearing completion. A high-power committee from the Airport Authority of India visited the airport in the northern Kerala city last week to review progress of the Rs900mn project. In the initial stage, only three aerobridges will be commissioned followed by two more. At least 1,000 passengers would be able to use the terminal at a time against the present capacity of 300. Three conveyor belts of 60m will be added to the new international terminal. The number of checking counters at the domestic terminal will be increased from five to 11 and from 10 to 28 at the international terminal.

Hot property destinations in 2007 From MonceyControl.com A booming economy, easy availability of loans and plenty of projects to choose from are perhaps some of the reasons for the property market shining bright. Year 2006 has come to an end and if you're waiting for the right time to buy some nice cozy place under the sun, Moneycontrol gives you a lowdown on the areas across the country that hold the most promise and the reasons as to why they hold high growth potential. According to Sajeet Narain, Managing Director, 'Narains Corp' International Properties, all Tier I cities will continue to remain a hot favourite in 2007 too thanks to the influx of foreign fund, multinational companies, FDI, better infrastructure among others. But then if Tier I cities are out of your reach you could consider investing in the surrounding locations. Adds Narain, "A good place to invest in any Tier I city, is the location surrounding the city and the suburbs, as these areas historically have been in demand in most developing international cities. IT Park: Steps on to identify land
Saturday February 3 2007 12:15 IST KOZHIKODE: The Revenue Department has suggested land at Valayanad (Mankavu) and Nellikkode villages in the city for establishing the proposed IT park. State IT secretary K.R. Jyothilal told Express on Friday that these two proposals have been moved to the office of the Chief Minister the other day. “We have also sought another stretch of land for better selection. government wants to acquire at least 25 acres of land in a single block for the park. A final decision on the location of the park will be taken after consultations with people’s representatives from the region,” he said. Additional District Magistrate P. Balan, who is holding the charge of Kozhikode district collector, submitted the proposals to the IT Department on the day of collectors’ conference. Considering the infrastructure shortcomings of Kozhikode, govt plans to house the park within the city or the city region. The KSIDC growth centres at Balussery and Panakkad (Malappuram), which are yet to find takers among investors, have also been suggested for the project. “Distance of these places from Kozhikode may dampen investors. At the initial stage of IT development at Kozhikode, we have to groom facilities within or near the city. Hence, KSIDC-owned locations can be considered at a later phase.” Jyothilal said several models have been suggested for developing the park. Some companies want to buy land and develop their own facility, while others, particularly MNCs, want plug-and-play facility. Technopark model is under active consideration, as that would require the least gestation period. If the Kozhikode IT Park is planned on the Technopark platform, government can soon go ahead with further steps after the land acquisition. Several companies operating in Technopark has sought premises in Kozhikode. The park will also benefit IT enterprises born in Kozhikode. Jyothilal said connectivity with other IT hubs in South India will emerge as a deciding factor for Kozhikode. Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has asked all airlines to explore chances of operating services connecting Kozhikode, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. |

I had met Mr. Vasanth Kumar, President of MAX Retail stores several months back at Trivandrum. It was regarding setting up a shop in a Mall we were planning. We were together for an evening, I picked him up from Country Club, Kovalam and later went to Technopark also.He had told that time that they have almost finalised spaces in Calicut, Thrissur etc.

dear praanthan channanan...
History The foundation stone was laid by Dr. B. Ramakrishna Rao, the Governor of Kerala, on the 29th of May, 1957 and inaugurated by Dr.A.R.Menon M.B.Ch.B ,Minister for Health,Kerla State on August 5th 1957 . Looking for retail space in Calicut
Dear SSCians,
I have been following this forum for a while and it gives me great pleasure to see such development happening in my home state. I represent a retailing firm based in South Kerala and which is loooking at entering the Calicut market by rental/lease/buying around 10,000 square feet area of space in an area which has good frontage and amicable parking facilities. This need not be on Mavoor road but could be on one of the arterial roads developing rapidly now. Could people who are more familiar with the city give me leads for the same here? Regards, Abhimanyu Ganesh abhi.ganesh@gmail.com |

if u r looking for a space other than mavoor road,i think YMCA cross road will be a good option..its one of the booming areas in calicut, and one more option is cherooty road..u can call it calicuts commercial street as in bangalore with all branded showrooms, red cross road is also a good option its near to cherooty road and this road leads to the beach road..its really posh over there with all state of art buildings, restaurants etc if u are looking for a posh residential area to set up ur retail store then golf link road will be a good option which is very near to mavoor road and medical college...anther option for a posh residential area will be bilathikulam which is near to eranjipalam jn, all afluent calicutites live in thease areas,u can also check malaparamba,on bangalore road..it is going to be costly since this is going to be a bypass jn and a fly over is goin to come over there whithin a few years....then other costliar options are nadakavu, west hill, ram mohan road, pavamani road, chalappuram etc YMCA cross road is also costly with sky high land rates..thats it,if u want more information just leave a private messege in my mail box...
