A walk around Walsall
Went Christmas shopping in Walsall, but before all of that nonsense I took some pics of the town centre and it's streetscapes.

Didnt expect the place to have such a "town centre" look, kind of thought of Walsall as more of a suburb. The art gallery is no asset to the town!!
Anyhow, always love looking at pics of places i dont know, well done! |

Nice pics Brighton boy...good to see you got some of the grafitti in shot. The Art Gallery is a massive asset to the town! Although to some it's not aesthetically pleasing it certainly kick started the regeneration of that whole part of the town centre and it also houses one of the finest art collections outside of London......definitely an asset.
I think Brighton Boy's photo's are spoilt only by the dreary weather, Walsall folk are not usually that miserable

Yeah there's a fair amount of outline plans for Walsall, here's some I've picked out:
The Waterfront - £180 million project will see 17 acres of vacant and derelict land around Town Wharf and the canal arm transformed into an exciting new quarter created as part of a revitalised Walsall town centre. Providing more than 650 new homes, it will also offer a mix of offices, bars and restaurants, leisure facilities and attractive public open space and art, including new canal bridges and basins. The project is anticipated to create around 600 new jobs when complete. ![]() ![]() Office corridor - A new mixed use central business quarter is proposed for the Littleton Street/ Blue Lane corridor with the creation of a series of office developments designed to meet the needs of business and enterprise in the 21st century. ![]() George street/Digbeth - Substantial development and refurbishment at the southern end of High Street will provide a major focus for shoppers and ‘anchor’ this end of the town centre. A brand new ASDA supermarket, part of the Digbeth/ George Street scheme, sets the scene for the re-modelling of the major department store within an expanded Old Square Shopping centre which will be enlarged to include cutting edge and high quantity fashion retailers. Small speciality shops, a food court and other retail outlets will complete the offer at this end of town, which will also benefit from improved car parking, pedestrian access and attractive public spaces. Sitting either side of the restored Park Street/ High Street spine, these developments will create and frame the re-established vista that will bring St Matthew’s Church back ‘into’ the town centre. (these are the only images on this scheme, doesn't show much but its all I can find) ![]()

Walsall is a really cool place to live. Unfortunately it often gets overlooked by Birmingham and Wolverhampton but it has some greats attractions. The Art Gallery is actually very good inside even if it does look like a lump of concrete cladding from the outside! I'm looking forward to seeing the Waterfront progessing. Does anyone know if the leather hotel is still going to be built??
