My friend Duncan McKenzie (chief construction engineer), he's just come from the Dancing Towers site from ground testing. He won't be staying at the Al Burj site sadly, he'll be going back to the Dancing Towers site soon, but he will be a great source of info in the future as both of his 2 best friends are involved throughout its construction (one as its site engineer and one as its head of logistics....which I'm yet to be introduced to)

[EDIT] When I say piling, I don't mean pouring friction piles....I mean core test piling (2nd phase subterreanian deep pile soil testing)
I didn't want people jumping the gun thinking concrete was being poured or anything!

Either someone's pulling my leg or I've made a mistake......have you checked your N and E coordinates? NE doesn't sound like Canada to me!

I guess so, I haven't plotted it yet. I'll have a go tonight (UK time) when I'm free.

Apparently it's a 420m x 330m cordon, which is absolutely huge!

Arms and legs outstretched about 120 miles per hour, compact about 124..
So at 124 miles per hour you would travel at 181.866666667 feet per second.
1 meter = 3.2808399 feet multiply that by 1200 meters = 3937.00788 feet
divide 3937.00788 by 181.866666667 = 21.647770601 seconds at 124 miles per hour.

At 120 miles per hour you would travel at 176 feet per second.
1 meter = 3.2808399 feet multiply that by 1200 meters = 3937.00788 feet
divide 3937.00788 by 176 = 22.369362955 seconds at 120 miles per hour.

a(t) = 9.8
v(t) = 9.8
Terminal velocity is 53 m/s,
53 = 9.8t
t = 2.3s

So it would take about 2.3 seconds to reach terminal velocity, but you have to take air drag into effect...

Depending on surface area I would estimate the fall at about 23 seconds?

I'm not very familiar with coordinates but based on the World and European maps I have on the wall behind my back the numbers should be correct.

Right here, still in the middle of nowhere :-)

But don't they fear the rising waterlevel in the future??
Just the case "Live Earth" has spoken the truth, the tower (1m over NN) and everything else will be under water in 50 years?!

From Burj Dubai, Al Burj will be lined up directly behind the Tallest Block, it appears.

Oh yeah, so it is.....didn't even think of that, pretty much a dead straight line too!

Well, they are going to create loads of small islands, waterways and canals around this whole area.....

....take a look at the top left quarter of this map and you'll see!

Al Burj plans tenders
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Saturday, 07 July 2007

Tenders for the main construction package of Al Burj Real Estate's Madinat Al Arab Phase One on Dubai Waterfront are expected to be issued by the end of the year.

Designs are being assessed and the winner will be selected within the next couple of months.

The project will be made up of seven towers, mainly residential, some of which will be 50 storeys high.

"Al Burj Real Estate" is the company created by Nakheel in partnership with other investors, that was put in charge to develop the Mina Al Arab part of the Waterfront.

So far they have never mentioned any relation to the Al Burj (the tower) though.

Hope is clear.
