Actually it looks exactly like 1050 because that is what it is. What you should have said is that you aren't perceiving it as being that tall, which is because you are misunderstanding the distance and angles. Rendering algorithms don't lie.

It's quite far away compared to the marina towers in the first one, I bet if I had made floors in al burj it would look different

I like the design, but why they are making it toller then burj Dubai?

I think burj dubai is the icon of dubai, after burj al arab

by the name of it, the hight and the location.

Total redesign is good, but i guess height is a important factor too.

from the Burj Dubai apr. 21 km

I got this from the Nakheel on 7th October 2007:

Wow, that was much closer than previously was, and in future at a far distance away one could see 2 giants towering way above the skylines at either sides. Simply amazing!

So btw you have no idea if the height has been changed again?

It would be a wise idea to move the power plant / desalination plant / aluminum thingie, put al burj, surrounding al burj development, marina 2 etc. there. After all, the sheer pulling effect and attractiveness created by a finished Marina is tremendous. It makes it a whole lot easier to sell out large developments - not to mention they can command far higher prices thereby making back the extra cost connected to moving the plant (considering its the same people doing everything: dubai inc. ) This is the coolest part of town imo!

Oh, and I -can not- wait for the redesign...!

it's not clear if this is even the actual site, but it's a 99% chance of it being in this location.

World record Al Burj looking for new home

Quote:
Nakheel's Al Burj skyscraper -which, it is believed, will go higher than the Burj Dubai - could be built on a plot of land between Jumeirah Lake Towers and Ibn Battuta Mall on Sheikh Zayed Road, Construction Week has learned.

The project, which has also been referred to as the Tall Tower, was initially planned to form part of the Dubai Waterfront development, but Nakheel has confirmed that it will no longer be built there. The company is currently assessing other locations in Dubai.

"We are assessing various locations, but nothing has been finalised yet. The Al Burj Tower is the same as the Tall Tower," said a spokesperson for Nakheel

A source from foundation engineering company, Fugro, which is carrying out the soil testing for the project, confirmed that the plot between Jumeirah Lake Towers and Ibn Battuta Mall was one of the proposed sites forthe development.

Initial designs for the tower indicate that there will be 228 floors, a four-level basement and one service sub-level.

The total built-up area will be 1.49 million m2, with 492,000 m2 of useable space.

The development will house offices, apartments and hotels.

The top habitable floor will be at 850 metres, topped by a 200- metre central spire with a three-level function area and three service floors, taking the building over the 1km mark.

Among the consultants working on the project are the UK's WSP, US-based LERA, Australia's Van Der Meer Consulting (VDM) and Olive Group.

Al burj in competition

Well, Although the latest height for Al Burj is like a little over 1000 meters, Kuwait new mega-project also includes a supertall just over 1000 meters and the project designed got approved this week. In my opinion, it would be pretty stupied to go ahead and build a 1000 meter supertall knowing that Kuwait Supertall might beat it just by a few meters. I would go back to the proposed heigth of 1200 meters. On the good note, the Kuwait supertall mega-project complex is expected to take up to 25 years of construction. That being the case, it may not be a threat. Most likely another supertall someone else will try to be WTB like the Saudi's 1 mile heigh supertall proposal. Anyway, if a supertall will be constructed over 800 meters, it is just too much money to just make another tall building, you have to go for the WTB height. My guess Al burj will either try to hit 1200 meters or scale back to maybe 600 or 700 meters - redesign the "Tall Tower" and try to make it a special Dubai Icon for the city.

It will be over 1km, dont you worry about that. In fact 1.2kms is a very likely height

You may like to do some research on what you have just said as you will find that supertalls are more efficient in many area compared to an equal amount of floor space stretched at ground level.

Todays technology takes advantage of many aspects of these structures, things as simple as the temperature differential between the base and the top of the tower can bring benefits in regulating internal temperature and saving power that would otherwise have gone towards A/C. Also the towers footprint is minimal and has lesser influence on phenomenon like heat inversion. There is a lot more space left for public space and parks can be much bigger which is beneficial in an urban environment.

One of the main disincentives is the initial cost involved in construction which is much higher than if you were to build a large number of 1 0r 2 storey buildings.
