I think it was on the post 732 ... but I might have to double check on that.

Some renders. Still all speculative though.

What's thought to be the new design

Some of another proposal (which apparantly has been rejected although nobody's certain about anything anyway)

two different designs

to make this clear, the new renders are 2 different designs.
this one is under 700m. looking at these pics, the tower doesnt have 7 rings or whatever you want to call them. but the other design has 7 rings. so its clearly two different renders

http://aycu24.webshots.com/image/459...2866142_rs.jpg
and this one is the mother of all towers.
doing some calculations and I've got an Est of 100m between that white line. the tower is under 1300m

I have always been very anti-Al Burj, but if they are to build the tower in the first group of renderings (the taller one), I would love it. I think that is a fantastic design and light-years better than the old one. The shorter design is nice... but it doesn't do much for me.

then there not going for 1000m +, the taller one is easily 1000m. and better looking design. but who knows. these might not even be the actual building. this could possible be for the waterfront development

No, I just know something you don't!
Everything I know I've posted in the other Al Burj thread.

The second one is probable, the one that Nakheel is pushing for and is +1200m.
Even though there is a relocation and a re-design #3...personally I'm still not convinced this will be final design that will be built.
Although groundwork has already begun....HRH always gets his way...and he wants it bigger!
The reasons for this I have highlighted to select people on this forum as not have a thread full of garbage for lack of knowledge and general misconceptions and misunderstandings.
From experience I know what happens when bombshells are dropped here and I don't have the answers, time or resources at the moment to answer general retaliations and spam as this thread has suffered enough already.
Just to make it perfectly clear...the "Shard Design" is the current "Proposal", is over 1200m and is NOT YET APPROVED....regardless of activity at the site.
It's one of two 1000m+ supertalls that will start construction in Dubai this year although still at the late stages of re-design due to one imposing factor! HRH!
It won't get built, until he says YES.

i think that the new design(the 1st which malec posted,or the taller one) really looks great, especially in comparsion to the old design though i think they could still do somewhat better, but anyway its great news that the new design is released and that construction started,i'm really looking forward to this tower and surely many other skyscraper enthusiasts do

I agree, a few forumers have called the other tower "Stubby", not realizing it was to be 115m in diameter and 1050m tall which makes it an absolute monster of a building, which puts things in perspective, especially as the new one is bigger still.

In comparison, Burj Dubai is 92m at it's widest!

Um...the "stubby" one isn't anywhere APPROACHING 10:1. You can tell that just by looking at it.

Yeah, I thought that too...no matter how many times I've tried I can't make it any more than 7:1.
It's the info that came with the picture for the previous (discarded for this build) site.
Either that or the PNG file wasn't constrained when it was resized and exported to Jpeg?

I didn't think of that...the picture could just be squished vertically. We saw that already in the project board for Burj Al Alam, and in renderings for a couple of other minor towers (I think the gateway towers for PJ was one).

It is Stubby...

Cmon guys, just count the windows/floors and do the calculation like I did... Its no more than 150 floors... 650m...

None of the renders are stretched, there are objects in them that have the correct dimensions which clearly demonstrate this.
