Dubai is really unbelievable, fantastic, unreal, crazy, absolutely phenomenal when it comes to things like these yet I dont see any reason why they should build these superstructures, is land scarce in Dubai? The reason why humans invented skyscrapers is to give space for cities that desperately need more space due to the lack or scarcity of available land near the city center where all the businesses strive.

And what if in the future these building dont click? I mean if no one buys them. I watched in CNN that for a Dubai developer, their priciple is Just build it and people will come, that's like gambling in a casino isnt it? Yet I am so excited for all these projects and for sure they're all going to be great but the worry inside me squirm.

Well, if noone buys then noone will build. These properties are bought really fast. The real thing is, who actually buys these. Is it people who want to live there, people buying a 2nd home, people who want to rent them out, etc...

If you think it's the government building burj dubai then that's nowhere close. The reason a 2nd and 3rd palm island are being built is because the others sold out! The thing is though, just because everything is bought doesn't mean people will be living in every house.

Aswell, the stuff shown in the render above won't be completed for about 10 years

don't forget
dubai is small and we don't have any intention to remove a whole desert, of which we don't have too much, within 20 years or less

the desert has to be preserved and is an amazing getaway of the city, just like grand canyon is

once you're fed up you take you g-class, landcruiser or whatever and leave the highway whereever you want

within 30 minutes you think you're back in the middle ages and can enjoy complete tranquility, apart from the fun you can have in the desert!

You have good reason to be jealous... There's so many people on these forums that posts commemnts such as "yawn neither will be the worlds tallest", and then say they're not jeolous. At the end of the day dubai is getting all these great towers that most cities could only ever dream of. Hell, i'm jeolous of dubai and my city just had a 322m high residential tower join its skyline, with one 219m under construction and a 245m about to start construction and possibly two more 300m+ on the drawing board. Many would say this is big boom, but its a squashed maggot compared to the boom dubai is getting. No city in the world can keep up with dubai at the moment in terms of construction.

Al Burj has a great location!.. well better than Palm Jumeirah Island in terms of skyline impact.

The building at left of Al Burj is Burj Dubai?

Thanks!
Nope it's some other thing. Looks 400 to 500m or so. Think that might just be put in there for show.

"i really don't see the need for more than 1 mega tall in Dubai...... At least for the moment."

True, it's mostly an investment in Dubai's oilfree future and an investment in publicity.

Wow thats far away. But you should be able to see Burj Dubai from 100km's i read in the BD thread. Quite amazing if it's true.

it's not 60km, it's less

distance between those 2 will be roughly 40km

on a clear day you will definitely see the other one

^ 60 km is a correct estimate.

From my home in Bur Dubai to Jebel Ali Free Zone is 40 km. I'm 5 - 6 km away from Burj Dubai but Al Burj is definitelly another 20 km further down the road from my office location.

well
we don't know the exact location of it
driving down there i seem to underestimate the distance a bit

but i don't think al burj is another 20km from jebel ali freezone

renders show it in the center of the project

also the viewing distance or direct distance between the towers is shorter than driving on a road

maybe it's 50km

first let me say that this building looks SO much better then Burj Dubai. but there are many questions are swirling in my head.
1. How structurally sound is the land that they are building these ridiculous buildings, is it not just sand? what kind of and how far down is bed rock? isn't this man made land?

2.were are all these people coming from! i have seen pictures on Abu Dhabi and Dubai 6o years ago they were just huts! Are there that many people being born there or is it all immigration?

The tower makes me think of a failed 80s proposal. Although, if they redising it, iit could be an instant landmark. I would like to see this tower, not with a huge ground complex, but atleast with one side of the wall directly next to the street. I couyld picture myself losing my balance, at the time I stare at it.
