I'll double that one.

Nakheel did announce that BIG AL will be provisionally 1050m with observation and restaurant floors at around 850m. Their final height will be revealed at the end of construction UNLESS they change their mind on their last claim.

BTW I absolutely LOVE the latest Al Burj, especially that super soaring version. Let's all wait until we get an official revealing from Nakheel before we are sure of what we are or are not sure of.

Here it comes.........................Lotta fun, lotta fun.

The original 850m+ version was lengthened to around 1200m with the 5 sectioned tower now extended to 7 sections.
Here is the revised model that took it to 1200m.

It was re-designed, smaller than the previous re-design at 1050m for another location, but due to aircraft restrictions by the new Dubai World Central Airport it had to be moved again, allowing for another re-design and even greater height.

The so called "stubby" one is definitely a big ass 1050m tall (115m wide)....having checked the original NFO and PNG file, the smaller JPG was in fact slightly unconstrained.
Here's the original.

This version was the one going on this plot until October 2007:

Now relocated, the very best bit about what is going on here......

is this beast......

Sorry if this question is stupid, but i read the last page and a now confused, are the "stubby" one and the "slender" one designs for trhe tall tower aka Al Burj? Or are they two seperate buildings with different locations? One at waterfront and the other one behind the marina?

It is confusing germantower.

They are both for the 'Al Burj' tower but remember half of the plots in Dubai have had a different 'Al Burj' design shown on them

Sky Tower mentioned the 'stumpy' one is no longer going to be built.

The 'Crystal Shard' is the latest proposal for the site second site in Sky Towers post above...

Spot on. Just nick names for discussion sake, we dont need more confusion than there already is

Although stumpy there looks a lot like a quartz crystal...

What happened to the central spire we've been told about in numerous reports? I really hope they build the first of these new designs, it is stunning.

The old design for this building was horrific, vulgar, brutalistic architecture, but the new design is a lot better, still not the cream of the crop though!

The main iconic buildings for Dubai are still Burj Al Arab, Burj Dubai and Palm Island!

i hope that Nakheel will build this design......this is so mhhhaaa words cant describe it....finally something really futuristic looking..i wonder if this are actually two towers connected via the 8 bridges or what this in the middle should be with an atrium in the middle, beause if you look closely you can see the sky shimmering through the middle part of the building....

I hope you understand what i mean.....its hard to explain in a strange language...

That new design look really cool. I actually didn't mind the previous design although it was a little brutalistic like Tristan said. I'm not sure it would have really have worked out in real life, but this one has more of a chance.
