I agree. The old one was very elegant. The new one is like some kind of space ship.

btw...what are your speculations about the architekt and the number of floors?

Foster,Pelli,SOM,Calatrava, Zaha.....and so on.

i personally have the feeling it is foster or SOM but it's only a feeling

and the number of floors....arround 250 i guess, maybe even more
i think it might be AS+GG, cuz not to long ago Adrian smith was approached by nakheel. and in his book there's a very similar design

Everyone is going to hate me for this but I don't like that it's so tall, why cant they just let Burj Dubai be the tallest for a couple of decades.

So the height of 1462m is the final height? What's the floor count?

Skytower quoted this number. Whether or not you believe it depends on if you trust him as a source. That has to be up to you.

Just looked at the book. Pages 462 to 466, Adrian talks about a very fast competition back for a tower (developed by Nakheel) to be designed near the Palm Islands with a height of 800m. He called it the "Crystal of Dubai". Granted, this 1,400m+ design is a bit bigger but it's not too far off from that first shorter rendering and now this taller new one. We may all be surprised if it's not his firm doing it but seeing as they've already designed BD and have tossed other plans around, I'd like to think we'll have another great Adrian design brought into reality here pretty soon.

no wonder today 300m towers are often unnoticed in this forum. soon 500m towers will have a hard time to get attention. what crazy times we live in ...

Interesting, I suppose I wasnt that far off when I labelled this the 'Crystal Shard'

Any chance you could scan the design from the book so that we can get an idea of the similarity between them Link?

if this tower were to be built to 1462m it would take at least 5-10 years to complete

Heh, I figured you were going to ask that

It's a bit late tonight but sure, tomorrow I can scan the pages in and give you an idea. If you check out the old Kowloon MTR Trade Center development (it's like a faceted crystal tower and is another one of Adrian's proposed buildings), you can get a pretty good idea from that in the meantime.
