Does anyone else think that Saudi is lying about downsizing the 'mile high' tower so that they can find out how high Al Burj will be then surprise us all by actually making the mile high tower a mile high? Would be a clever move! I think 1.4km is amazing but what's even more amazing is 20 buildings up to 90 floors around it! I count that Dubai should have around or at least 40(!) supertalls!

I think Kingdom holding decreased size of Mile high tower before Al burj increased their size. Or may be kingdom holding heard of al burj will increase in secret before the public knew, who knows...

But if Kingdom holding decides to build mile high tower 2,000metres for surprise, it would shock everybody (probably impractical)

The new tall tower measures up nearly two chicago spires stacked on top of each other

Don't you mean 200m over double the height of Chicago Spire?

I'm sure all this is just drawing exercises...

no one really did somme deep structural calculations. or a financiar ones.

I mean comme on... a 200m tower is 100 milion USD, a 400m is a bilion, and a 800m(burj dubai) is 4 bilion USD.

Every +100m will double-triple the cost of the building...

I don't think even the arabs will throw away like 50 bilion USD for a 1400m building (even if is tehnicaly posible)

They should dramatically change the current design, it's too massive.

No, Al burj in arabic means 'the tower'

Oh my bad, thanks man, I was looking at the previous height by accident (1,050 metres)

Then I'll changed it to double this:

plus 80 metres.

What's the physical progress with this tower? Are they still soil testing or doing the foundation?

Can someone tell me history of different sites of this tower's locations? Because this tower was planned to be built at like every inch of Dubai (not literally)

I'm sure I heard Nakheel say that once you go past a certain height (maybe 1000m) then it doesn't cost that much more to add a couple of hundred metres.

These projects for Dubai are getting really boring now. I mean do they even have the population to fill all those offices/residences in the upcoming years? I don't know the population density but I don't think these supertalls will be useful in areas like Dubai where population barely reaches 2 million. I know that they're trying to make Dubai all touristy and stuff to live off of after their oil reserves are empty but come on, this is ridiculous. It's like if they're trying to build a skyscraper city to impress and tell the world that they have money. Plus, this type of building best suits for countries or cities with population over 5 million+ and where metro area population is more than 15 million. To sum it up, it will be best fitted in cities like Tokyo, Seoul, New York, Mexico City, or even London where more than 10million people reside in the city and more than 20 million in the metro areas.

??? Adding height changes how everything below it must be built because of weight and wind loading. Because of this the costs go up exponentially for any height increase. That is of course unless the added height is a stick stuck on top!!!

Holy Frijoles!!!! Damn, 1400 meters now!!!!!!!

All they need to do is release a render now. Also, is "Tall Tower" really the new name? or just a description?

The historic day will come, if the tower starts to rise!!

But what makes me is that info, that 20 towers to 90 floors will build around it!!!!!

Good day to you all.

Well has anyone seen this video?

http://www.palmsales.ca/palm/palmvideo.htm

It is really eye-catching especially the part with the Tall Building(Tower)

Observe that it is not even mentioned by the narrator, although it plays a center piece of almost every shot.

I realize that this video may be old or seen before for that I want to be excused but I haven’t seen it anywhere else, and you can see that I am new here.

PS. In the new video of the palm Jumeirah http://www.thepalm.ae/jumeirah/news-...ry-1/the-palm/ I now see they have settled for a hotel as a center piece. But the idea of having Al Burj or Tall Tower as the icon of the trunk section was a lot more interesting and of course ambitious.
