maybe in 1,5 years or even longer we'll really see some progress. because 1st they've to finish the slurry walls, should be soon i think because they started already in january with it. after that they've to build the foundation, and that will take much time...i guess at least 1,5 years. we're talking about a 1000m+ skyscraper!

However my daily commute not only is in that same direction, but I even drive by in SZR for a further 10 km.

Is it possible to be building a skyscraper and never disclose renders and final height to the public?

lol that will be like becoming a doctor with no medical degree... I am sure they will release renders. If they don't and people don't like it, they will have to demolish it and start all over again. Imagine demolishing a building that is over a km tall. Wow!

ground testing is already over, now they are constructing the Slurry Walls. after that they'll dig the hole and then start with pilling, so construction of the tower itself .

I hope it won't be circular, can't imagine an interesting circular shape that isn't a copy of the CS. Everything else cylindrical has been done to no end. Didn't like Foster's SWFC proposal either.

Something like the concept renders with the sharp edges (like a stealth vehicle) that turned out to be from another vision, would be most excellent.

I also did like the original design though, i thought it was well proportioned and the whole idea of a large deck with a swimming pool at ~1km that allows you to look up a further 200m to the two higher segments of the tower is just out of this world.

A circular hole just means circular base, nothing else.

At least it won't be a box. There are far too many box shaped skyscrapers in the world, and anything round is far more interesting than a box. also, somewhere a long way back, an article mentioned it will have a central spire.

I sorta have to disagree, I think it would be the world trade center of Dubai if they kept it the same. Such an icon should not be so plain. Just instead of two boxes, it would a cylinder. So I for one am hoping that it will be drastically different and that the design will just blow us away (as opposed to "oh, the new WTS").
