Which airport has the most runways?

I'm just curious for my own personal knowledge.

Yes, KORD is supposed to have six parallel runways 27 L C R/9 R C L, 28 L C R/10 R C L and 2 parallel 22L/4R and 22R/4L. That will be outrageous, they have to make serious modifications to the streets buildings and other city places and are facing some objetions, however the project got approved.
I am curious how far, if need be, change of the runways layout will affect terminals layout ? There will be an unbeliavable messup with remodeling the layout of the runways, I am also curious how will they get this organized !

Well, anyway they have space in USA, LHR has only two and performs amazingly with them.

What is the European Airport with the largest amount of runways ?

greets

JFK and Newark are huge international and domestic airports, and LaGuardia is a fairly big domestic airport.

Oh yeah, Heathrow is amazing! Only United and American airlines can fly into Heathrow and that's only from a limited number of US cities. United and American flights from other cities and ALL other US airlines are forced to Gatwick which handles them all with just one runway.

And British Airways, which has about 40% of the flights from Heathrow will admit that it makes a very large percentage of its revenue and profits on transatlantic flights to the US from Heathrow.

Yeah, Heathrow really is amazing!!

I'm not sure that the "runway" on the far right is actually a active runway for commercial traffic. Just from this jpeg, it looks kind of strange. Still, 5 runways for a western European airport is pretty fantastic. I wonder how long it takes to taxi to the gate from the runway on the left side? I believe that two of those left runways are surrounded by private farms.

The existing terminal will recieve minimal modifications. There will be a brand new terminal built on the west edge of the airport.

O'Hare Modernization map, with runways highlighted in red.

Yeah, Jayayess1190, the plans look incredibly. Thank you, STR, for this map.
As it shows, two NW/SE (don't remember numbers) will be demolished to give space for enlarged and integrated terminal complex with access on east and west side of airport, 9/27 runways will remain plus 4 parallel will be built, am I right ?
Will be there a taxiways connecting northern and southern runways and eventually driveways and some airport train under those taxiways to gain terminal complex integrity ? When the investment is planned to be started and finished ?
I will have to visit KORD after :-)
And not to be so OT, after finishing, will it be the airport with largest amount of runways (8), or some other airport will outrank KORD before ?

It would have to be a US airport. US airports have obscene amounts of runways because of the mixed use of different size planes for different numbers of passengers traveling to different cities. A higher percentage of US flights are 737s compared to those in Europe and Asia, thus US airports have a larger number of aircraft movements and more runways to handle those movements.

ORD in its current setup has 6 active runways. A 7th one was closed a year or two ago. Denver has 6, DFW has 7, and I think DTW might have 6. I'm not aware of any commercial airports with more than those. Most major US airports have 4.

So yeah, after the ORD expansion, it should have 8 active runways. Denver and Dallas are the only ones I'm aware of that have a real possibility of exceeding that number in the near future.
