Are we in the most exciting era?

I guess this is the most appropriate place to put this thread?

Question is, do you think we are currently in the most exciting era in our lifetimes with regard to skyscraper and skyline development? What with all the new supertalls going up, fantastic new additions being added to London, New York, Chicago, Hong Kong, and many many other major cities.

The skylines of 2010, 2020 etc will be changed so much because of the development in the last 3 or 4 years, and the coming 10 years that we so far have been told about by developers, architects and the like.

Ofcourse, if you were alive in the 1930's which I guess is highly unlikely, you would be forgiven for saying that was more exciting . If you choose otherwise, say the 1990's, 1980's etc, please state why!

1930's was just New York and Chicago. This boom is world wide, so I would say, yes, so far this is the most exciting era.

I agree.

But furthermore, we are now in a very exciting era because computers are extensively used to compute the statics of buildings like the Guggenheim Bilbao:

This wave is about to reach into skyscraper architecture, so we will see the fanciest and most exciting skyscrapers in the next decade, maybe. The Turning Torso points into this direction. There will be organic and deconstructivist skyscrapers.

In our lifetimes, yes. But I think the earlier parts of the 20th century was a lot more exciting in scale.

The 20s-30s were probably the most exciting period, but this is too.

The no. of tall buildings rising up is great.

Definitly yes. Go out and see it for it might just take another 80 years before and era like this passes by.

The early 20th century were an exciting era and when the first classical skyscrapers were built but the excitement was only limited to cities in NA, mostly NYC and Chicago.

The present era IMO is more exciting because cities all over the world and building to great new heights!

For Americans, the 1920s and 30s were more exciting. But all over the world, the 21st century brings radical change as developing countries begin to mature and expand their economic power.

The new developments & structures are amazing and just keep pushing the limits. 200 storey towers, twister buildings, leaning towers, man-made islands ? AWESOME!
