Well they'd rebuild it like they did to some buildings in UW campus. It is not really rebuilt... It is more like major repairments.

If they don't build anything more like:
Condon Hall ![]() Haggett Hall ![]() Sieg Hall ![]() ![]() Then I would be OK with whatever. I like the newer buildings that blend collegiate gothic with modern architecture. They seem to look pretty good. |

I agree. It would be really cool to see an old school gothic building constructed but if all i can get is the modern take on gothic, i will gladly take it.
On another off note, does anyone here know much about the frats at the UW. Im pretty sure im going to rush this summer but ive only heard a few opinions of my first choices. Im looking at Beta Theta Pi or Sigma Chi. Any opinions? |

Agreed! I hate 50s to early 80s buildings. They're very ugly and digusting buildings. At my previous college, Western Oregon University... They demolished one of most beautiful red brick buildings with bell tower because it collapsed during powerful storm back in the 60s (I think) and rebuild it with really ugly building that built in the 60s. It is seriously eyesore because it got built middle of beautiful campus. I can't believe anyone would build something like that. Sighs I don't get some people.

haratio......frats are horrible. im sorry, but i was in one my freshman year...and the only people who like the greek system are the people in the greek system. It's mostly the people in high school who were the wanna-be's. I was all excited to join a house...but they are flithy and NOT worth the money...they claim their grades are highest on campus....but take a look at the courses they take....all easy rocks for jocks classes. After a couple years, most people want to leave the frats anyways because it gets old living in a house. My experience was horrible. I enjoyed meeting new people in the house when i was a live-out...but when i moved in....it was a different story and everyone had changed their attitudes. Basically they will be REALLY REALLY nice to you when u rush....but when u join and start paying...they will give a rats ass...as long as they have your money. But, some people really love the greek system. I just find it stupid, a HUGE waste of money (even though they say it saves u money...but u get shitty food and share rooms) and with the cost of beer and parties...u will be paying a heck of a lot more. As a side note..my grades plunged when i joined....and the "secrets" they tell are gay.....its all just wierd and creepy. As u can tell I am not fond of the greek system...but hey! its for some people! haha

Good luck! I was going to become an architect but math thing stopped me from becoming one so I chose interior design instead. It is still part of architecuture though. It is my backup plan. You should find something to back you up if that doesn't work it out for you. Let's hope you will get in that department!

I haven't heard plans for new dorms. The closest thing would be the current discussions about using the excess portions of the Safeco property for new faculty housing.
But yes, with rental apartments getting scarcer and costlier in the coming years, more dorms would seem to be a high priority. |

Well there was talk about requiring ALL freshmen to live in dorms and they said that would mean new construction of dorms, but I haven't heard much about it recently.
I got rejected by the UW business school. I'm taking that as a sign that i'm not supposed to become an accountant... I was a bit mad though. If I got into UW originally, I should do whatever the hell I want to do in that school. It's like a school within a school within a school I have to keep freakin applying to. And then if you get rejected, you wasted the first two years with those bullshit prereq classes they made you take. I'm against education now. |

My roommate works for HFS (Housing and Food Services). There are no plans for any dorms. No renderings, no concepts, no meetings. Though the dorms are overbooked every autumn quarter, by about the 8th week there's space. For HFS this is pretty ideal.

In summary, I had friends who may have wanted to do a premed track but were just not up to the math and science. I don't want a half assed doctor operating on me. Architects (or business people) just gotta have a certain intensity that grades can not convey. (oh yeah, for anyone who thinks architects have to be math whizzes - they don't. I passed intermediate Physics and Calculus at Berkeley but we hire licensed structural engineers for important stuff. Berkeley didn't even require a structures course.) |

Oh - and the UW should require freshman to live in dorms for at least the first quarter (ideally the whole first year). The frat system is nuts the way it divides up students before they even attend a class. My cousins were recruited by frats in spring or early summer before their first fall. They lived in the house upon arrival on campus. Makes for a poor campus community feeling right from the start (of course compared to my freshman experience and visits to numerous campuses.)
The UW president should also live near or on campus instead of a University owned mansion in the Washington Park neighborhood! It was great to walk to class at Berkeley and say hello to the chancellor as he was walking to work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_House,_Berkeley Sorry if I've mentioned these things before! |

I lived in both the dorms and in a fraternity, and I totally disagree with forcing students to live in the dorms. I met way more people in the greek system than in the dorms by a significant margin. Let students live where they want. The less the UW subsidizes housing, the more they can spend in other areas.
