For the husky stadium renovation they want to remove the track, bring the seats closer. So the track has to go somewhere. One idea was to build a parking garage on like... a third of the montlake parking lot, the one you're refering to mhays, probably only 2 or 3 stories then have the top level be the track. Apparently they did that at SDSU and it was a big success. But that's just a proposal.

My dads really good friend puts bids on this stuff and they were talking about ripping down the south end stands...all of it and rebuilding that whole side. hmmm....i dont think husky stadium looks that bad but it has so much potential to be a dominant staduim..

Nah, build a track and field facility instead so they can remove that f-ing track from Husky Stadium and lower the bowl.

Yep, that is a big issue coming up. They have been talking about adding a track to the soccer facility but I'd prefer they not screw both soccer and track and build a facility on the old Graves Field site, the parking lot, or south of the NE IMA fields. The UW still needs to build the baseball and soccer grandstands, they are behind currently and the pathetic football team isn't helping things any as they are the cash cow of the A.D.

They have to replace the south side to add luxury boxes, a new press box, and to adjust the sightlines so it is possible to lower the bowl. Also, the south side is much older than the north side, which was added in '87.

I am alum.

Favorite thing about UW? Wow, so many.

- great university
- with a great campus
- in a great neighborhood
- in a great city
- in a great region of the planet

In more detail, the things I like are the lake, the Montlake Cut, Husky Stadium, tailgating in the south lot of Husky Stadium, Hec Ed (most underrated venue in college basketball), Rainier Vista area, Hub Lawn on a sunny day, Red Square, the Quad, Burke Gilman Trail, IMA, Denny Field, the activities/speakers/museums/concerts etc., the great variety of courses and people, dorm life, the greek system, the U-District, University Village, the express bus to downtown Seattle, the waterfront activity center and Arboretum. I could go on.

The negatives: TAs, 100 level courses with a boring prof, stupid mandatory graduation requirements out of discipline, crappy desks in some buildings, campus politics, it tends to die on weekends that don't have a big event going on (hey it is Seattle and the Pacific NW, I don't blame UW folks for enjoying this great area on weekends.), lacks a few important programs, NIMBYs trying to hold the university back, runaway teenage jerks on the Ave., lack of more non-campus food choices on campus. I could go on, but nothing too major.

A few more aerials.

The Montlake Cut, looking W. The Montlake Cut is the south edge of campus. Husky Stadium and the UW Medical Center are located along it. The Montake Cut is part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal which links Lake Washington with Lake Union and Puget Sound. The UW crew team holds their races here and fans line its banks:

Here is a close-up of the Montlake Bridge, a draw bridge that crosses the cut and marks the south entrance of campus:

Canoeing in Union Bay (part of Lake Washington and yes, lends its name to the clothing company) and the arboretum. You can rent canoes at the Waterfront Activities Center behind Husky Stadium along the lake:

I'm too lazy to open a photobucket account and do it myself but you should put some pictures up of UW tacoma and UW bothell. Both are supposed to grow into regular 4 year universities and have over 6,000 students each by 2020, which is still a decade and a half away but when you see how tiny the campuses are now, it's a big change.

^ This UW Alum can't wait for the day those two are spun off as seperate institutions, hopefully sans the UW name. I hope UW Bothell can become like a Western Washington University in the Seattle metro area. Booth Gardner wanted to name it Cascade State Univeristy. UW Tacoma be the same thing but with a technology bent, maybe call it Washington Tech.

Why can't they still have the UW name? It could be like a mini-UC system or something.

I don't want a system, I want individual institutions. This state wastes enough money on worthless bureuacracy. I would also like to see WSU Vancouver and WSU Tri-Cities spun off as seperate institutions too.

Probably not going to happen. Actually the term I've been hearing a lot is the 'tri-campuses' they say that a lot at the ASUW meetings when refering to the 'UW system'. Personally, I like it, I'd love for UW Seattle to be the UC Berkeley of the Northwest, elite, grad focused, lots of research. Bothell can be Davis and Tacoma can be Irvine. It's sinking in already, both mine and tritown's profiles say 'UW Seattle' instead of just UW.
