Vientiane is changing at a similar speed to Bangkok. Although the starting conditions are a lot more difficult.

Speaking of which, this place looked like it could be a Pantip Plaza. But they were only selling mobile phones. This kind of 'architecture' is a horror to see in beautiful Vientiane imo

Still many dirtroads around town but I think they'll soon be a thing of the past. Large open sewer holes are everywhere though... be careful when walking

Khao jii paa te! Does Bangkok have this (Lao/khmer/vietnam style stuffed baguettes) anywhere?

Th Lan Xang, leading to Patu Xai has recently been given a facelift.

Handicraft shops are common, like in Chiang Mai

That Dam

Hilltribes, Hmong I think, in Xieng Khouang province. This was on a mountain plateau 1100-1200 meters above sea level so it was quite cold. Some nights were only about 5 degrees... cold enough to see your breath!

Really, have a nice holiday in Lao lah, they have a lot of nice pirated DVDs in Chinatown.
