Looking very, very hot! Would love to get a unit in there..
plus the location is superb. I hope Mies is not spinning in his grave.. I am happy to see the minor updating to his ideas.

It will be interesting to see how this building turns out. While Clewes other designs certainly have some elements taken from the international style (but mixed with others), this building is the most derivative. I don't know whether to think he was just being lazy, or just decided to do it for a change. Either way, I like it.

this looks promising, but do we know what kind of materials are going to be used for this? i somehow doubt the same quality materials will be used that would be standard on a Mies building...that could drasticaly affect the final product.

seen on a Mies building... the TD building was the head office of the Toronto Dominion Bank, thus a much higher profile building than this condo. All we can hope for is that the final product looks smart.

Update
Hello
Thought I would give everyone here a small update on the X-Condo. Since visiting the sales centre, the projected start date is going to move up about six months to February/March of 2007 which puts the completion date somewhere around summer of 2009. Sales have been strong, 70%-75% + They are trying to find an alternate sales office for when construction begins and one of the possible locations is in the pizza pizza office or a building down the street on charles street. Further updates, the x-condo was also nominated for three awards for the X, best condo suite design, best model kitchen & best sales brochure but unfortunately did not win. Tarion did award Great Gulf Homes the Highrise builder of the year for their service. When I get the official word from the builder of the exact construction date, I'll post it on here. |

"Well the coloured lines look good, but I mean, at least try to stay with the pure design Mies had in mind from the beginning."
keep in mind though that Mies' black boxes (be it New York, Chicago, Montreal, etc.) are highly deriative of each other - these dashes of colour on this Mies' adaptation at least add some originality with, IMO, little comprimise |

Update
Just thought I'd give everyone an update:
"Light" Internal demo started today, the model suite will be torned down beginning today and the entire sales office will be off the site and closed temporary for a few weeks by the end of March to make way for the full demolition of the current six storey building. The new sales office will be nearby (no confirmed address yet) with a new model suite inside (a small one bedroom unit). Permits have already been issued so I guess all that remains is the ceremonial digging of the site. Sales are above 75% now. Original occuapancy date was scheduled for December 2009 with a winter 07 start date, lets hope that with the revised start date that the occupancy will now be summer 2009 |

I really don't get the appeal of the architecture here.
Its a big black box. Kind of reminds of a smaller version of the TD towers.

Maybe because the TD Towers are so widely loved and praised, so buildings that reflect its style are held to a higher degree.
