Europes tallest residential building to be built in london!!!

construction on a new 50 story residential building at londons canary wharf is underway. The 50 storey building will become on completion europes tallest residential building.
The 736,000 sq ft scheme incorporates 700 apartments, a third of which will be affordable homes, a 5 star hotel, health spa, retail facilities and bars and restaurants in two interlinked towers on a waterside site just 500 metres from Canada Square.

the tower continues in the trend of the canary wharf group that aims to redevelop Londons run down urban areas and the new tower will create affordable housing and new jobs for a deprived area of the city

i think this is a masterpiece of architecture and will further enhance Londons skyline.

tell me what you think

masterpiece??????????? PLEASE RESTRAIN YOURSELF. Would you be calling this a masterpiece if you were commenting on a building in a thread on Toronto or Vancouver?

It is just a dull placeless piece of uninspired architecture.

It doesn't look bad IMO.The spire avoids the building of looking boring.

Its called the Pan Peninsula Tower - even though its under construction, the design will change if they get planning permission to make the tower taller, the spire unfortunately will be gone. It will be 147.39 mtrs high.

Looks good but not a masterpiece. The only reason you said that is because its in London. Toronto has a bunch of towers just like that. The only difference is we dont parade around telling the world everytime we get something like this. And we sure as hell dont call it a masterpiece. Heres a SMALL selection of such buildings from the render thread in the Toronto forum. Here it is if you want to see more http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=263015&page=1 .

Murano

Phase II, 41s, 459 ft. Sales

Signature Tower @Cityplace, 69s, 714 ft. Proposed

Keep in mind that this is just a small amount of just the condos. That does not include any hotels or offices. check the link for more info.

Isn't Manchester beetham tower residential? and taller than this one? So how can it be the tallest residential in Europe? I don't think Beetham tower is the tallest res in europe anyway .

Anyway, the design is reasonable. Not stunning, but far from ugly. I suppose you can't have every building looking stunning.

Umm this sint Europes tallest residential tower - infact its way off. It is a nice tower but nothing special for London. Its just nice toknow London is actually building rather then talking.

I disagree! This will be a HUGE residential tower by London's standards, and a far slimmer and more elegant design than any skyscraper that's been built in the city previously.

The design of this building is no different to the tens of thousands of residential towers that you see in Hong Kong, Chinese , Asian, American or Canadian cities. Fair enough the tower is a novelty in London and the whole of Europe, however that doesnt make it an architecture masterpiece

Yeah, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. But I certainly wouldn't say it's "nothing special".

Manchestr Beetham is half residential half hotel so doesn't count. It'll hold highest living space in the Uk when complete though, for a short while until Manc's very own Eastgate is finished (should start 1st or 2nd quarter of next year) and that, while half resi/hotel, will be highest in UK again, this time at 188m.

As others said, this isn't a masterpiece, however it is a superb looking tower and a great addition to the ever-expanding London skyline.
The tower itself is beautiful, exactly what a residential building should look like IMO, elegant and yet modern.
BTW, 50 floors and 147m okay, pretty tall, but the Triumph Palace in Moscow is higher than that.
