Wow, great buildings in Auckland (and Wellington)! What's the Vector arena for?

Straight from the developer's mouth:

"It will enable Auckland to host more, and more varied, entertainment and sports events than ever before.

The venue will be a significant icon for Auckland with the capacity, facilities and operational flexibility to support large community events as well as international sports and entertainment events
."

some nice projects, some very badly designed square buildings too though. Auckland looks nice though, that international business scholl looks sweet. Nice projects in Wellington!!!

Great developments there. But how is Auckland going to fill up all those highrises, if its a city of less than a million?

The city population is 1.3 million and it is Australasia's 2nd fastest growing city (Brisbane is the fastest). Auckland is apparently growing by 20 people a day due to Domestic migration and International immigration.

The four cities within the Auckland region experienced the largest growth, together accounting for more than 70 percent of New Zealand's population growth.

The city council also wants to densify the city in order to curb urban sprawl and that means building up. Auckland is the World's 2nd largest city in terms of geographical area (Los Angeles is the largest) and the sprawl cannot continue unabated.

I also wanted to add that with the growing inner city population, there is a demand for commercial space. There are rumours flying around that there is a plan for a 40 storey office tower, only second in height to Skytower. As you can well imagine, we are watching the press very closely

For those that don't know Auckland .....

the Skyline actually spreads back from the Harbour , inland ! So what you have seen on the Previous Photo's displayed here , is only Part of the CBD !
This Photo shows what sort of area she cover's , and she's spreading further !

and also if you don't visit the Kiwiscrapers Forum's and don't know much about Wellington it has an amazing Skyline , with maybe a dozen Highrise Projects underway at Present which is pretty amazing for a city of 400,000

I don't know if it is Australasia's 2nd fastest growing city but Perth has a population of only 1.5 million and it is growing by at least 60 people / day for a growth rate of around 1.6 percent.

I find that incredibly hard to believe...does anyone have any stats on this?

The myth is that Auckland has an URBAN area greater than that of London but I have read in various "scientific" journals that Auckland has got the second largest GEOGRAPHICAL area of any city in the World.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it is all built-up. It is the city limits and land that is available which falls under the city's jurisdiction.

Now that I need the facts, do you think that I can find them LOL

I am going to make my boyfriend "happy" now, see ya later

One can't trust the media LOL I am going to get my measuring stick and I will report back when I am done. Zips down boys LOL

All I can say is that Auckland's sprawl must be stopped. For a city of just over a million people, it is shameful how much land the city uses.
