I chose Batangas City over the other cities because it has a lot of potential. For the growth of Batangas City is something very different from other progressive cities. It is very obvious that others cities progress is brought about by their proximity to Metro Manila, Batangas City is another story. It has progress on its own and a billionaire city. Aside from that, unlike others, Batangas City is a capital city.(Well, except Antipolo and Lucena..

YES, STA. ROSA IT IS!!! A QUEEN CITY SHOULD HAVE A COSMOPOLITAN AND METROPOLITAN CHARACTER... UNFORTUNATELY, BATANGAS CITY STILL DOESNT HAVE THAT ATMOSPHERE. AT PARANG MAS NAGIGING COSMOPOLITAN PA NGA ANG NEARBY LIPA CITY, ITS TWIN CITY IN THE BATANGAS PROVINCE. ITS NOT ENOUGH THAT BATANGAS HAS AN INTERNATIONAL PORT AND ONLY ONE MAJOR MALL TO MAKE IT A QUEEN CITY. STA. ROSA HAS MORE. ITS ECONOMY AND NIGHT LIFE IS VIBRANT. ITS PARKS, SUBDIVISIONS, ECOZONES AND BUSINESS AREAS ARE WORLD CLASS.. THE EXPRESSWAY FROM MANILA GRADUALLY NARROWS UPON REACHING BATANGAS CITY. EIGHT LANES UNTIL STA. ROSA, SIX LANES UNTIL CALAMBA, FOUR LANES UNTIL LIPA, AND ONLY TWO LANES (SALUBUNGAN PA) UNTIL BATANGAS CITY.

to all concerned who pass by coastal road, please post at DPWH website to ask postponement of Maynilad diggings along aguinaldo hi-way until after the completion of R1 MCTEP extension on March 2011. I have done that already, maybe we should flood them with our request.

kung naalala nyo pa ang dinanas natin nung isang taon, abot hanggang tambo ang trapik ng coastal road. Gusto nyo ba danasin ulit yun?

Cement firm reactivates Batangas facility to meet demand

By Doris Dumlao
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 21:12:00 01/18/2011

MANILA, Philippines—Leading cement manufacturer Holcim Philippines has reactivated its terminal in Calaca, Batangas, in anticipation of robust private and public construction spending, which may translate to more business for the company.

Holcim Philippines Senior Vice President for Commercial Ed Sahagun announced Tuesday that the company recommissioned the facility, which had been mothballed since 1999, to increase its ability to meet the cement demands of Luzon.

“The Metro Luzon area is one of the growth centers of the country. The highways and urban centers being built in this area are proof of its economic potential and dynamism,” he said. “We have opened the Calaca facility to ensure the availability of our products to support these projects.”

Holcim had spent about P63 million to rehabilitate the facility, install modern operating systems and acquire new equipment, such as filters to reduce dust emissions when bagging cement. The company also leased a new vessel to serve the Calaca facility, transporting cement from its manufacturing plant in Lugait, Misamis Oriental.

Sahagun explained that the company expected its logistics operations to become more efficient with the reactivation of its Calaca terminal.

Also, the facility would provide additional tax revenue for the local government, as well as provide employment to locals.

The Holcim official said that the Metro Luzon cement market, which includes the National Capital Region and Southern Tagalog region, was poised to grow further this year, driven by private and public construction spending.

As of the third quarter of 2010, Region IVA and the National Capital Region had the highest number of new construction projects, and accounted for 40 percent of total construction activities nationwide, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office.

Construction spending in the two regions also accounted for 65.6 percent of total national construction expenditures during the quarter.

Random inspections of drivers ordered
Quote:
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Feb. 4 (PIA) -– CALABARZON police director, Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao Jr. has directed the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Region IV-A to initiate a random stop, board, and on-the-spot check on drunken drivers to prevent the repitition of a recent vehicular accident on Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) in Ibaan, Batangas that resulted in the death of seven members of a family.

Amidst public clamor for government to address the concerns on road safety especially in national roads and tollways, Pagdilao also directed the HPG to strictly implement the rules against over speeding.

He also ordered the HPG to coordinate with the managements of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the STAR Tollway on how the rules against over speeding and driving under the influence of liquor can be strictly implemented.

Pagdilao expressed support to the plan of Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto to hold a multi-agency conference to further address the safety of motorists. Pagdilao said he will immediately convene a region-wide dialgoue with local government units and other agencies involved such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the management of STAR Tollway and SLEX to thresh out measures that will improve the inter-operability of all agencies concerned in ensuring that all laws and rules on motorists’ safety are being strictly implemented.

Dir. Pagdilao said that records from HPG reveal that for the year 2010, 544 of the 1,078 vehicular accidents recorded in CALABARZON occurred in SLEX. The STAR Tollway has recorded three accidents including the one in Ibaan, Batangas.

HPG records showed that the highest number of vehicular accidents in 2010 occurred In the month of September with 127, followed by November with 115, and March with 107 vehicular accidents.

Calabarzon food exporters take on food safety management

CALAMBA CITY, Feb. 5 (PIA) -- In preparation for the export market, three notable Calabarzon food firms took training workshops on food safety management system facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry in Calabarzon.
Edna & Rebecca's Banana Chips of Batangas, Carm Foods Enterprises of Cavite, and Golden Arrow of Laguna, all food processors and potential food exporters took the training-workshops.
Yvon Bertrand, an expert in food safety management systems and a volunteer advisor of the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO), made trips to the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna in January to conduct the workshops on food safety and HACCP.
Aside from the three-day workshop, the three food firms were allotted one-on-one consultations with Bertrand regarding the establishment of a HACCP system for each firm.
The workshops aim to prepare food firms to be compliant with international food safety requirements particularly on HACCP.
Food exporters are required by importing countries particularly United States, North America, and the European Union to be certified to the HACCP system.
HACCP, or the hazard analysis critical control point, is an internationally recognized, science-based food safety system to prevent, reduce, or eliminate potential food safety hazards. It requires food operators to develop documented procedures which details the activities to be done to meet regulatory requirements, and their corresponding records to prove compliance.
DTI tapped Bertrand's expertise on food safety management under a memorandum of understanding between DTI Calabarzon and CESO in which CESO provides technical, professional and managerial assistance through advisory and mentoring services to micro, small and medium enterprises.
CESO is a Canadian volunteer cooperation organization whose mission is to contribute towards bridging the economic and social gaps between developed and developing nations. It provides/transfers knowledge and skills through its volunteer advisers on building capacity economic development and in governance.

"The CESO technical assistance is a very valuable input in the development of exporters particularly those enrolled in DTI's export pathways program," said Marilou Quinco-Toledo, regional director for DTI Calabarzon, during an exit interview with the Canadian volunteer.
Also, about 50 representatives of other food processors and cooperatives attended the workshop held in Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna.
Carm Foods Enterprises manufactures smoked and dried fish while Edna & Rebecca's processes banana chips, and Golden Arrow produces cookies out of arrow root. (Charlie S. Dajao, DTI 4A/PIA-Calabarzon).

P18 B BATANGAS-MINDORO BRIDGE, PINAG-AARALAN

(Provincial Information Office)
