Brazil will win in term of density.US only has a handful of cities that has good density.(NY & Chicago hav near 1/2 of total hi-rises in US)the hi-rises in US dont seem to spread out all over the place like in Brazil & china.
Density:
Brazil
China (including HK)
USA
China (excluding HK)

But due to the stupid law,high-rises in Brazil r so boring and lacking kickass buildings, every city look the same-same.While China is just booming recently so most of the skyscrappers r new.US will definitely win for its quality buildings although 2/3 of the hi-rises were built more than 2-3 decades ago.
Quality:
USA
China (including HK)
China (excluding HK)
Brazil

No, I mean that it's questionable to say "China has more skyscrapers, just look at HK" when a lot of the skyscrapers were built before HK was a part of China, and because HK is still somewhat seperate from the rest of China, both in terms of wealth and liberty.
Among the 42 (at least) 200+ buildings in Hong Kong, only 8 of them were built before the handover.
And in recent years, the average height of the buildings (especially residential buildings) increases significantly. Every year there are tens of 40+ Storeys Public Housings coming.

Fair enough. But your opinion would be wrong, if you are judging by Emporis numbers for Shanghai (which are obviously inaccurate, thus they cannot be used to verify or disregard my claims).

Unfortunately I do not have a better source than Emporis, and I doubt anyone else would because there are hundreds of highrises under construction in Shanghai at one time. It would be extremely hard to count.

Although there is no source with a full count, You cannot honestly believe that the largest city in China, Shanghai with a conservative 16 million population has fewer highrises than Chicago. Be realistic.

Hong Kong, although with it's own system, is still part of China. Even cities like Shenzhen (10 million +) or Guangzhou (10 million +) or Chongqing (12 million +) likely surpass Chicago.

BTW: Thanks for keeping this thing civilized. Nobody should be too upset by this thread anyways. If China has more highrises, so what?

The question is difficult.
From the amount of skyscrapers i would say China.
From the quality i would say USA.

The new tall skyscrapers in China are really great like the Chongqing World Trade Center, Silver Tie and the CCTV Headquarter in Beijing or the Jasper Tower in Shanghai. If the build more of such great building the decision will be much more easy.

I prefer qualities to China, US has too many boxy buildings that are ugly in shape and unfuturistic.

I'm not sure why there are so many people saying it's China when according to Emporis the U.S.A. has almost 7,000 more high rises. Emporis might not be completely accurate but I dont think it has a margin of error of +/- 7,000. Just looking at the facts here. Correct me if I am wrong

# Country Population Buildings
1. U.S.A. 296,410,404 19,092

2. China 1,236,914,658 12,143

3. Brazil 185,516,519 11,652

Emporis Count for Shanghai : 773
http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/?id=100213

Does it look like in that picture that Shanghai has only 773 highrises over 12 storeys?

Keep in mind that this is only a small section of the city. You do not even see the Oriental Pearl or Jin Mao.

This is Shenzhen, according to Emporis, there are 266 highrises over 12 storeys in height. (Tallest is Shing Hing Square 384m / 1260 ft.)

This is Dallas with 237 highrises according to Emporis

Imagine
if that total was actually accurate. So would it seem logical that HK (city of 7 million) has 7,000 out of the 12,000 total highrise buildings in all of China with 1.3 Billion people?

I hate to sound like a troll, but this is the truth.

According to emporis there are 700 skscrapers in Beijing.
I was in Beijing and i say there are 2000.
The amount of skyscrapers for China in emporis is not true.

i would say that china might hav more hi-rises than US. Cities in china tend to build hi-ries all over the place and the cities are usually larger than those of the US(more ppl = more residental buildings),while US cities tend to build hi-rises only in the central area (that's y they look so neat).more Ppl in the US live in low-rises than in china.

In the first pic, it looks so hazy, actually it's the infamous air pollution. They'll never do anything to freshen the air quality

Shanghai is even the city which builds in the moment the most skyscrapers in the world!

The country of Taiwan.
I think Dubai builds more than Shanghai over 30 stories IMO.
Just because of the booming development does not mean it is the highrise capital of the world.
