13 km of suspecsion bridge!! Yikes thats must cost tons!!! I dont think Yemen or Djibiouti have the money to build it... I think it will be financed by a fund or maybe some Gulf countries like UAE or Kuwait.

Nope, they don't have the money...it'll be financed by the Emiratis...

Foreign investment in Djibouti (can't speak for Yemen) from the UAE has literally boomed in the last few years. A few hotels and resorts have been built, and Djibouti's strategic port is being run by Dubai Port International...

Cost is estimated at between $10 billion and $20 billion, depending on design, project organization and financing. Construction would take seven to nine years.

There is a similar planned bridge back here in India to connect Mumbai with its Twin city (20 km) but at the cost of just 500 millionUs$

where is the added value for either country.. and who said it will ease trasnportation between asia and africa..

Seriously wouldnt a product from middle of africa get to central asia quicker if it was trucked then shipping rather have the product trucked all the way!!

It will start better trade links between Yemen and the Horn.

There needs to be more trade between East Africa and Arabia, and this, along with stronger port and air links, will help both countries (and neighboring countries) develop together.

Yeah it should accelerate development in the horn. There is a lot of room for Agriculture in the Horn of Africa and the Rest of East Africa so this "Bridge" should enhance Trade.


And Might I add, that apart from strengthening Trade, Yemen and Djibouti can make Money through Tolling. So Djibouti could just become another Panama.

The bridge is only a revival of all old Sheba Provinces reconnection program in order to uplift the whole area economically. There was a bridge in 2300BC between the two sides and was destroyed during the Himyarat Invasion of Abessinya (Ethiopia today). The population of both sides are connected by blood and family ties, and rebuilding this historic region of the world will be beneficial not only to Yemen and the Horn of Africa but to the whole world. The main aim is to open a new window for travel and tourism and alongside what comes with it from agricultural productions to financial institutions.

Nasser Commercial Center (NCY)

Innovators was commissioned to design this project which promises to be one of the most noticeable in Sana’a, Yemen. Designed to be 15 to 17 storey high, it is 3 ten to twelve storey towers on top of a five storey podium. The site is located on the major road to the airport from the city. It has an area of 10,000m2 bounded by three major Streets. The total project built area is 80,000m2. The five storey podium sits on top of two levels underground 350 cars parking and houses: the Hotel lobby (reception, lounge and cafeteria) and part one of the Hypermarket. The First Floor houses the second part of the 8000m2 Hypermarket, and houses the Multipurpose Hall. The Second Floor is devoted for the mall. It has 36 shops totaling 6,700m2. The Third Floor has the Leisure area and the Food Court which has 18 serving counters and 2,500m2 seating area. The Fourth Floor has two Function Halls and a Swimming Pool accessible to the hotel guests plus a Health Club. On top of the podium is the 10 stories four-star 180 guests Hotel, the two identical Office Buildings towers

The project estimated to cost 32 million USD. Construction expected to start in 2008.
