PITTSBURGH: One of America's Great Urban Treasures
Brendan Gill, architecture writer for The New Yorker, 1990: "The three most beautiful cities in the world are Paris; St. Petersburg, Russia; and Pittsburgh. If Pittsburgh were situated somewhere in the heart of Europe, tourists would eagerly journey hundreds of miles out of their way to visit it."

Wonderful pics. I visited the city in 1992 but there do not seem to be any skyscrapers built since then. For a city with a history of building high rises for over 100 years I find this a bit worrying!

@ geoff189d
That's typical for a lot of American cities. For example Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Los Angeles and San Francisco practically have no skyscrapers built after 1990. Pittsburgh is very high on my US cities-I-have-to-visit list, though. Read some great things about it, concerning visual arts and such. And it's also somewhat of a long lost glory city, and I absolutely LOVE cities like that. They have character.

Geoff, Pittsburgh just unveiled plans to build a new 25-30 story skyscraper. In addition, there are currently 2 18-story residential towers U/C downtown.

Evergrey. In my opinion the Golden Triangle is second only to Lower Manhattan - from the visual point of view. The city fathers should pull out all the stops and build Pennsylvania's tallest!

Pittsburgh is a treasure. It is amazing to me that such a beautiful and charming city is off the radar screen for so many people. Also, it is a good place for the arts. They have some great galleries and plenty of interesting artists.

I have been to Pittsburgh 5 or 6 times and everytime it offers sometihing new and different. The skyline, looking from the north, is very beautiful. It is not just the skyline from the north that looks nice. You see the river(s) and some parks and a stadium or two. It has a 'happy' feel from that view. And to the south, just a few minute's drive, it feels like a very rural and appalachian. Nice pictures. Thanks.

I loved it when I went there, a really nice city. Too bad PPG Place is so short, itd be much better if it was taller than USX because PPG place kicks ass in person. Great pics
