If the definition of a cathedral is being the seat of a bishop, then these are the cathedrals of Hamburg:
St.Michaelis with its 132m high tower. It is the seat of the local protestant bishop. St. Marien cathedral (in german: Domkirche St.Marien), seat of the roman-catholic archbishop for Northern Germany. ![]() This church is however not well known and stands in the shadow of the main protestant churches of Hamburg (you see the towers of them on the following picture. The catholic cathedral is not even included on this panorama. The second tower from the right is the town hall) |

St.Sophia Cathedral, in Kyiv, Ukraine. Most sacred ukrainian architectural, spiritual and national treasure. Also highly valued by many in Christian and Slavic world in general. It's on UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Early 11th century, built under Jaroslav the Wise. Cathedral was renovated in 1633 in Ukrainian Baroque style. It's a museum and a park now, St.Sophia wasn't given back to the Church after the fall of communism, because all Churches lay claim to it. However, it's also used on important national holidays and sometimes for Presidential speeches. Bell tower, from which much of ancient Kyiv can be seen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Сomplex/Park/Museum ![]() 11th century, original ![]() Details ![]() ![]() It's also famous for being a place of extreme proximity to the building of my birth

Temple of Christ the Saviour
Finished in 1883, demolished in 1931 by direct order from Stalin, rebuilded in 1995-2000 using old photos so not really a historic site, but still very beautiful and almost true to original. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's strange that nobody has posted any Italian churches yet (except milano), since it's the center of christianity... Anyway, some of the nicest in Italy:
Orvieto ![]() Siena ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Firenze ![]() ![]() ![]() Venezia ![]() ![]() ![]() Ravenna ![]() ![]() Assissi ![]() ![]() and then off course there's this little one, but I guess everyone knows it... ![]() By the way, my favourite in the world: Antwerp cathedral!
