Catedral de León (1205-1301)

Catedral de Toledo (1226-1493)

The Cathedral of Toledo is one of the three 13th century High Gothic cathedrals in Spain and is considered to be the magnum opus of the Gothic style in Spain. It was begun in 1226 during the reign of Ferdinand III and the last gothic contributions were made in the fifteenth century when, in 1493, the vaults of the central nave were finished, during the times of the Catholic Monarchs.

Catedral de Sevilla (1401-1507)

It is the largest of all Roman Catholic cathedrals (Saint Peter's Basilica not being a cathedral) and also the largest Medieval Gothic religious building, in terms of both area and volume. It is 76 by 115 meters, and was built to cover the land previously occupied by the Almohad Mosque. Its central nave rises to an awesome 42 metres and even the side chapels seem tall enough to contain an ordinary church. Its main altarpiece is considered the largest in the Christian world.
The interior, with the longest nave in Spain, is lavishly decorated, with a large quantity of gold evident. In the main body of the cathedral only the great box like structure of the coro stands out, filling the central portion of the nave. This opens onto the Capilla Mayor, dominated by a vast Gothic retablo of 45 carved scenes from the life of Christ. The lifetime's work of a single craftsman, Pierre Dancart, this is the ultimate masterpiece of the cathedral - the largest and richest altarpiece in the world and one of the finest examples of Gothic woodcarving anywhere.

The Cathedral also has a large collection of religious jewelry items, paintings and sculptures, along with the tomb of Christopher Columbus.

The builders reused some columns and elements from the mosque, and most famously the Giralda, originally a minaret, was converted into a bell tower. It is topped with a statue representing Faith. The Giralda is the city's most famous symbol.

This cathedral was built to demonstrate Seville's wealth, as it had become a major trading center in the years after the Reconquista.

During the planning of the cathedral's construction, a member of the chapter was recorded to have commented:
"We shall have a church [so great and] of such a kind that those who see it built will think we were mad."

"Fagamos un templo tal e tan grande, que los que la vieren acabada, nos tengan por locos".

Sevilla's Cathedral is just a dream.

This city was the link between America and Spain when the colonies era, so it became very wealth. That's why the city is full of ornaments in their buildings façade.

The Cathedral of Seville is also the largest in Christendom, but in volume. Others like the Vatican have a larger footprint though.

In any case, it is as beautiful and ornate as it is big.

it is just a church, not cathedral.

A cathedral is a Christian church that contains the seat of a bishop. In more detailed terms it is a religious building for worship, specifically of a denomination with an episcopal hierarchy, such as the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox and some Lutheran churches, which serves as a bishop's seat, and thus as the central church of a diocese (the diocese is an administrative territorial unit administrated by a bishop).

For me it's sufficient to quote Basilica di San Marco in Venice, Saint Paul's Cathedral in Rome and il 'Duomo' di Florence.....there's nothing left to say....in this field Italy is unique...there is no comparison.

ah if only they built such beautiful cathedrals today!
Too bad we abandoned good architecture 60 years ago.

As a child, I fell in love with tis impressing one of Rouen, France. With 151 meters in height it's also a high one. I like the facade, the pinnacle and the setting.
