you will understand what i mean by this pic:

No Actually what I find strange existing in a CBD is immensly wide roads and Highways going through it. And the utter lack of human scale. The density in the middle of the picture is what should be in a CBD, the other stuff looks like something in Soviet Russia but with more modern buildings. This is Guangzhow not Moscow.

Yes, China does redefine the meaning of CBD i guess. Personally, I prefer a more spaced out CBD as with the Zhu Jiang new city because each building is given 'respect' and space. Imagine all those nice buildings cramped up together like the pic above? I do though believe that there should be areas in the CBD where buildings should be closer to each other, mainly the smaller buildings

I know what youre saying but in this instance not these buildings, and not there.

I love dense human scaled areas in the centre (think Europe), with a clutch of highrises outside. However in this example its a vast meridian line, the centre in effect will be a showcase area of space and scale (think Eiffel Tower's meridian, or Washington DC). Moreover those buildings are not old nor historic, but illegal buildings set up in the 1990s boom - concrete midrises set up by the poor migrants. They are lively and very Chinese, but architecturally they aren't.

What I would love Guangzhou to have done is set up its big central axis plan (a vast linear park lined with supertalls), but outside this CBD keep its density and human scale, preferably historic.

Oh yah. The hotel (top 30 floors) was supposed to open late this year, but probably won't be open till well into next year (Feb?). Lots, and lots of work!

You are actually looking at it from the wrong axis. The central axis of Zhujiang new town is not visible here. It follows the skyscrapers from left-to-right, broken up by a nice waterfront and cultural area.

The short buildings there are not historic. Tianhe district is a new area, and is not the old Guangzhou, which is located further west upstream.
