Agree, the final design looks much better.

Do you guys ever heard of copyrights?

Let's say VW design a great car, then Opel comme and say, "wow that's a great car, xerox the blueprints for it." Same thing with the house next door, if u have the best house, you may not want somebody else to copy you. I don't know what is so hard to understand, if both buildings would have the same owner, I would understand.

twins are boring..just look how good shanghai's skyline looks--two supertalls side by side, totally different designs..

diversity and density is a great combination..

External diameter at the widest point I think

and as the sides curve and vary as you climb the tower so does the length of each side, but about 60m is a good guide

Hope that helps

Were you being ironic posting that twice?

I guess there probably won't be a twin with all the reasons people have given. It just looks neater with a twin though. If the city plan didn't feature a twin, i guess i wouldn't be so dissapointed, also its because of the distance in which they are located as well. The gate formed in Hk by the two towers are made by the two towers being very far apart, hence a twin wouldn't make much sense. Also, the Shanghai skyline has its towers located in a way such that it looks good to have different designs, also because it was planned for three towers to be built anyway.

This would only be a problem if the "copyright" still belonged to the designer and hadn't been trasferred to the City hall (which I believe is the other party in the contract, or has heavy stakes in the project). Are you wiser than me in this respect? In any case, it would be absurd if, for such an important project, the city of Guangzhou had no voice in this and could not buy the project if necessary. I agree with you though - the West Tower IS the "best house"!

Well first of all the Pudong area with the supertalls has little density (and I like it that way). Secondly, there's a point in having twins, Baudrillard explained that point very well in one of his books (albeit not in a positive tone). Anyway Pudong has none of the symmetry of Zhujiang New City. Take a look from bird's eye, all is symmetrical, from the respective positions of the supertalls to the road axes.
From the looks of it, they are renouncing the original project only because of impediments, not because they now think twins are less cool. Well it's a shame I say.

what i mean was, with three supertalls planned and with the location that they will be built in, then identical towers won't make sense. Gz on the other hand had twins planned, two supertalls was going to be built and at a distance which suited two identical towers

I think the chosen design was the best among them all. Some of the other proposals are just so....cliche, like another twisting tower, one that looks like a warmhole portal, and the last one that looks like a collapsing World Trade Center. Yakkkk.........

The current one is more sophisticated and less pretentious.

are the two tower still being built? I wont even call them twins because twin are born or constructed on the same day. These are sister building, who happen to look the same. And look how far apart they live. It's pretty sad, that they hate each other so much, that they can't stand next to each other lol.

name any twins that were constructed on the same day; even WTC wasn't. Usually they are phased projects, if phase 1 (the first tower) is successful, they move onto phase 2 and complete the twin. Doing both towers at the same time is just too expensive.

I love when there is a North/South Tower and/or a East/West Tower, really adds a signature to the city!

From these pics, I feel it's better for West Tower to have a crown.

I mostly meant the opeaning of the building, they normally don't open years part from each other.
