George Washington's Hometown is Beyond Rating
Thanks for posting my home city on this site. With respect to everyone's opinion, Alexandria wants nothing to do with looking like any other tacky gaudy postmodern-ish city, and indeed actively avoids it. If you so much as put a tiny neon sign in your window, this city will come down on you like a hawk. This is GEORGE WASHINGTON'S hometown for God's sake, with Mercedes Benz police cars and where even the bolts on the street lamps are perfectly historically accurate and carefully approved. Even a very small house in the historic district likely costs an astounding millions of dollars. This is a city with GENUINE AURA, which pervades every corner of every building in town with a reverence and an Americanism unlike any you've ever felt. Not to make it sound like we're assholes or anything (haha), but I don't think Alexandria could care less about what anyone thinks of it compared to other skylines--it boasts a history and authenticity that no one else in America could begin to claim. Please do come and visit =)

That said, I wouldn't really define the King Street Metro station area as really being a skyline, just a really dense cluster of 10-15 story buildings that seem huge because there is nothing around them except small houses. And it looks like the rest of greater Washington, there are many many other areas like that such as Ballston, Bethesda, Tysons Corner, Silver Spring, Rossyln, Reston, etc. Last edited by zaphod; November 6th, 2011 at 07:54 PM. |
