Just that one tower (Heron) would make such a difference to the skyline.

Those new renderings of Heron Tower are absolutely amazing. If the cladding is finished to the quality in the renderings this looks as though it will be the best skyscraper in Europe. What a fantastic profile.

If tower 42 was renovated, say put newer nicer cladding and maybe changed the top a little, possibly a little height increase or a spire added, would you guys be for or against it?

Erm... it was reclad only a few years ago following the IRA bomb attack.

Anyway I think Tower 42 is cool. As I've said many times before, it might not be a "beautiful" tower, but it's cool nonetheless. I like the vertical lines on the building, which emphasise its height, and the building's unique shape and footprint. It's an interesting piece of architecture.

I also like its central location and the way it gives a pinnacle to the cluster. The slightly dark, menacing appearance reminds me of the Sears Tower in Chicago - sort of ugly, but in a cool way. A lot of non-UK forumers don't seem to understand or appreciate the tower, which is a shame!

The only way to really appreciate Tower 42 is to see it in the flesh,so to speak.

It is a completely different experience to seeing it on any photograph.

Against it. I like the understated 'efficiency' of the tower. Adding something to the top would undermine the design of the tower because when viewed from above it is the shape of the Natwest logo. Hence the towers design

I agree. Go and walk around the City of London, see all the old churches and cathedrals, feel the incredible history of the place, experience the bustling atmosphere and pace of this major financial district, see the amazing variety and mixture of architecture wherever you go, explore the winding streets and narrow passages, visit the ancient ruins of London Wall, then go and walk past the 600ft, 42 storey NatWest Tower - London's first proper skyscraper.

Does anyone know that situation with drapers gardens? is there a date for demolition? I know this isn't a particularly loved building but i think it'll be a shame to see it go.

I won't be bothered if it goes, such a god awful building, London can do much better then that. To be honest I thought it HAD been demolished, last I heard the order had been given back in 2002, I thought they'd have done it by now...I guess not...

What's it being replaced with???

I think theres some renderings floating about somewhere. Im sure the proposal was quite a bit shorter, more of a mid rise.

Actually, I disagree.

Drapers Gardens is one of the few decent 60's highrises in London in my opinion.

I like the curved shape, the emerald green cladding and the sharp corners.
