How do you know it's nowhere close to the towers design? Have you seen an actual render?
Also it says under it 'This is how the tower will look. I'd be intrested to know where it came from before dismissing it.

ok i agree i exaggerated a bit, it is maybe not "nowhere close" but this tower won't look like that.
as it says, this is only an artist's impression, and look at the quality of those textures!

Yes that tower sucks and hopefully will be replaced by one of the kick-ass proposals all waiting to be built. What about those new media city towers. Think they're any good?

I like the media towers, but some of those last apartment are pretty bland and some even look like they are a strip center with a tower sticking out of the top of them.

I really like those types of buildings like in the photos. I love glass so maybe that's why. A strip centre? What's that?

Oh right.

I don't think those towers are in a suburb location. They're pretty close to other buildings around them. There was a shot with about 4 of these together but don't know where it is.

Not really

The thing is since there's loads of unknown stuff and for example, some of those media city mid-rises that I posted the other day are already almost topped out

None of them are outside the city. All of them are in urban Dubai and none of them is really new. All those were build in the past 5 years (which is not new by Dubai standarts)

I found a couple of pictures and tried to create a pano:

Oh yeah, they are nothing as bad as a suburban strip center, I only said it because of how the stores were at the bottom. But I would take those in Dubai than the suburban strip center anyday.

most of the towers in dubai have shops at the base.
also don't forget so some might be entrances for companies in reality.

to give you a rough idea of the NEW SZR SKYLINE, which will be , without any doubts, among the most stunning in the world.

SZR will get more and more towers of course, a few 300m towers among them.
the new DWTC will get another tall tower, should be a supertall and several highrises till 2010.
Dubai International Financial Centre will add some real density with another supertall (at least) and dozens of towers.
On the top, Burj Dubai complex, you all know what it is, the world's tallest tower, another supertall, and some 60 highrises at least.
Business Bay, the map has 500 plots, at least 300 will be highrise, and there are rumours about another supersupersupertall (see the large circle in the middle).
also , some unlimited height plots were for sale

Also, not included in the map, would be on the very bottom, park square project with another few dozens highrises, and a 600m + tower approved, but not yet sure if it will be built.

Check the first post in this thread, SZR, Burj Dubai, Business Bay and DIFC as well as DWTC to find out more, or have a look at the UAE Section.

and this is only one of the, let's say 5 major skylines in dubai's future (and already UC or done).
