Not trying to be too clever here, but it doesn't hurt to think....
with this recent talk of a 1300m tower, it it getting me to challenge
the assumption that the raft foundation can only support a 950m
tower and what exactly that means.

When a foundation is specified, what are the key specs? Is it the amount of vertical pressure it can sustain before it fails? Is it the amount of shear force? Are there any structural engineers who can answer this? What does it mean to be able to support a building of a partcular height? Pressure on the foundation is mass/area. What mass does the 950m spec refer too assuming that the area is the area of the pad uniformly distributed? Couldn't
one go taller by making a skinnier building to keep the mass the same?

Wouldn't the building height then be limited by the building stabiliity itself rather than the foundation. 950m sounds rather an odd number for us to just take at face value without knowing its engineering origins. I see no reason based on the foundation alone why one couldn't slap a 350m needle on top of the building!

thoughts?

Question!

Don’t know if anybody remember the amazing Reuters movie clip which I posted some time ago in the news section......still worth a view for those who haven’t seen it yet:
http://www.infocast.dk/jp/jp.php?id=...ategory=ALL&q=

Gives a good impression of the fast progress...

Does any of the Dubai people know if the public have access to this model/exhibition-thing which are shown in the movie? It is placed right next to the building sight right?

(as some might notice it is the “Jyllands Posten” famous for it’s Mohammed drawings which are linking to the clip...- sorry ‘bout that)

DL. Why did you trick me?

When I saw your name heading on this thread, I thought: " HERE WE GO....NEW PICS!!".

But alas....

Oh well, you have the best pics from this structure lately and I was excited to see more.

I'll wait.

Darth Stemp the foundation looks not big enough to me for such a building. Is it the final one ?

Those aren't DL's. Go back a few threads and you'll notice the difference. Feb 6 are good (we need all we can get. SWFC is beating us!), but DL's are real good!
