Thanks Bio!!

We'll put the Oak back in Selly yet.

Mind you, I used to live in Selly Park, and that hasn't got a park!!!

(The big huge one next to it - Cannon Hilll - is in Edgbaston)

Out of interest on the plans, what will replace the current retail developments when they go. Looks like Sainsbury's having flats but what about b&q et al.

Lets put the cannon's back in Cannon Hill, and blow up sainsburys if they don't plant the trees!

The current Sainsbury's will be replaced by hotel, flats/student accommodation. The Halfords - B&Q bit will remain although Sainsbury's are romancing B&Q to move with them.

Is the Sainsburys the first bit to be built, what if they build the store and decide not to bother developing the rest and sell the scheme on, are they allowed to do this ? after all, they only really want to build a bigger store ?

I think they are committed to developing the whole site as part of their "social responsibility" - and they acquired that land at a very high price.

But I guess they would be allowed to sell it on with planning permission - either way we get the regeneration benefits

Perhaps they could sell it to Tesco.

Been having a look through the plans for this.

Sainsburys and other retail bits in the middle...

More shops and offices on the other side of the canal (behind the existing Battery building)...

Some quite big blocks of flats to the South and East...

A technology park behind the main store...

And housing off to the west...

Its a huge development, I didn't realise just how big, looks really good, nice to see good developments in suburbs as well as the city centre, when is this all likely to begin? anybody know?

There's more too, the old Sainsbury's site is being turned into 212 flats, 283 student bedspaces, an 80 bed hotel and yet more retail and office space...

The only problem is going to be that the cacky old big shed retail park is still going to be stuck in the middle.

"Sally" Oak will be unrecognisable after this - very interesting Biley, thanks.

Superhospital, Triangle, Sainsbury's, revamped Bristol Rd, bypass, student accomodation, a couple of new bridges... have I missed anything out? The University should get the surroundings it deserves - and the students the accomodation that they deserve!

Yeah and most of Selly Oak Hospital will be going and redeveloped once the new Super hospital is built, i think it will be a very desirable area once all this development is complete!

And some other exciting development in Selly Oak at the Selly Oak A & E hospital. I have a well placed military friend who works at the defence medicine unit based at selly oak hospital.

He has said the MOD has bought the whole Selly Oak hospital site and will be turning the hospital into Europes largest super military hospital.

Thats very exciting and confirms the internationally renknown medical centre QE and Selly Oak have been under University Health Trust.

With Aston's Pharacology and Pharaceutical departments, Birmingham's medical school (the largest in country) and this super military hospital we can establish brum as the leading medical centre in UK.

Great stuff!! Love the idea of the triangle being developed. Also, I think I noticed the old railway arches being kept in the Battery scheme.

Great work Biley!

As supermarkets go, this looks good, and I am delighted with all the associated stuff!

And for me the best thing (well, 2 actually).

- the reflooding of the canal to make a new basin/wharf
- virtually all of the car parking is underground

I have to actually negotiate the roads surrounding the Triangle on a regular basis and I reckon the last thing we need is for the place to be developed without taking some of the land away.
The roads on either side of the triangle are ludicrously narrow and when the city-bound traffic is diverted down Chappel Lane to the new bypass unless the roads are altered and widened the area will be gridlocked.
Does anyone have knowlege or plans of the new road lay-out proposed for that area and will the main Bristol Road through Bournbrook to Maryvale Road become one-way?
Before Sainsburys was built there was going to be the largest roundabout in Europe built to accomodate all the roads coverging on that part of Selly Oak, now that would have been something to see.
