Via Ippodromo 8 Residential Complex
Milan | Zone 8

design > Beretta Associati
developer > Gruppo Carlo Maresca
area > 24,500 sqm
status > ongoing

The residential complex will consist of two buildings, with an orthogonal distribution which shapes an open courtyard, and a 22 levels tower north oriented.

The project shows a double aesthetical language. On the one hand it recalls the local architectural tradition, by using a cladding called "Ceppo di Gré" (an artificial type) for the lower buildings, while on the other hand it tries to highlight the tower, with wooden balconies and boxes for the greenery.

MiCo gets a new look.

It was launched a contest to redesign the facades of MiCo -Milan Convention Center-, the areas bordering the CityLife Park and the Porta Carlo Magno entrance. The place is also destinated to host artworks of some contemporary artists, so it is necessary to adopt innovative architectural solutions. The competition was promoted by Fondazione Fiera Milano and addressed to architects and engineers under 40, in view of the total upgrading of Via Gattamelata and its surroundings.

The deadline for the submission of proposals will expire on December 15. The final ranking is expected to be announced by 31 January 2018, which will be drawn up by a committee composed by Giovanni Gorno Tempini (Fondazione Fiera Milano), Fabrizio Curci (Fiera Milano), Francesco Conci (Fiera Milano Congressi), Armando Borghi (CityLife) and Mario Bellini (architect).

The result is the Pharo design."
Park Associati Architects

A STRUCTURE THAT COMMUNICATES WITH THE SPACE
Pharo stands in a location open to all directions, making it easy to get anywhere in or outside the city. Direct access to highways makes the entire complex a strategic center. The tower and, integrated with it in a spatial continuum, two buildings that follow the same mirror pattern, connect to four urban arteries: via Gattamelata, viale Teodorico, via Traiano, and via Faravelli.

NEW ARCHITECTURES, NEW VISIONS
An emblematic architecture. A firm anchor for anyone who wants to be in the heart of change. Pharo. Intentionally shifting geometries create extremely striking patterns. A new office center strategically situated between Portello, City Life, and the future Green Street, in Milan’s most densely developed work and business area. A complex that reflects the surrounding urban area and communicates with it, designed according to the most advanced criteria of eco-compatibility and energy efficiency.

AN IDEAL PLACE FOR DEPARTURE
With its extremely convenient location, Pharo offers easy access to both downtown nerve centers and to airports and train stations. Metro lines M5 and M1 will take you to the Garibaldi and Milan Centrale train stations, which both offer high speed trains, and to Piazza Cadorna and Piazza Duomo, in just a few minutes. The city rail link is also close by and the Linate and Malpensa airports are easy to reach. Easy to get to from any direction, Pharo welcomes guests and users of its facilities in a large, well-lighted reception area. Very high ceilings, terraces, and windows. An ornate, prestigious space, emblematic of an architecture that acts as a new urban hub.

Preparatory work. Existing buildings will be completely demolished!

Milan designated a "City of Literature" by UNESCO

The United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added Milan to its Creative Cities Network on Tuesday, officially naming it a City of Literature. The network, UNESCO said in a release, is "at the frontline of (their) efforts to foster innovation and creativity as key drivers for a more sustainable and inclusive urban development".

The network exists to foster creative relationships between cities, including tourism and partnerships. It includes 116 cities all over the world. Cities of Literature include Melbourne, Dublin, Barcelona, Quebec City, Manchester.

"As a centre of publishing and literature, Milan is starting to get the international recognition it deserves" said Culture Councillor Filippo Del Corno. The city proper is home of more than 500 publishers and more than 200 libraries. It also hosts international fairs such as "Tempo di Libri" and "BookCity Milano".

The Italian cities of Milan, (literature), Alba (gastronomy), Pesaro (music) and Carrara (crafts) were among 64 cities from 44 countries to join UNESCO's list of creative cities Tuesday. The new entries raised to nine the number of Italian cities on the international creative cities list after Rome (cinema), Fabriano (crafts), Turin (design), Bologna (music) and Parma (gastronomy).

Milan mayor agreed with Inter FC over new village.
San Siro: AC Milan, it's a goodbye?

Milan mayor, Giuseppe Sala, agreed with Inter FC: the football team will build its "village" at Piazza d'Armi. The plan advanced by the Black and Blues is also to refurbish San Siro stadium.

Quote:

Piazza d'Armi is an area of 450,000 square meters, not so far from San Siro.
The project envisages the construction of new training centre, sports medical centre, retail and food areas, hotel, etc.
The City Authority is also discussing about the possibility to construct a sports plant: it was suggested that AC Milan may build its new property stadium at Rogoredo district.

"It has started a phase in which we are illustrating the city's potential areas to build a stadium, but this check must be done in a short time. We need to understand if AC Milan really wants to build its own stadium, otherwise we will ask them to invest on San Siro" said the mayor.

"Rogoredo is a well-structured area between the exit of Milan Ring Road, the high speed national network and the subway" says the Councilor for Urban Planning Pierfrancesco Maran. "In this district, we are planning to invest a lot with new projects, including Santa Giulia (see)".

In detail, the City Authority has indicated two areas so far:
* Public property > Porto di Mare
* Private property > area close to Medici del Vascello

Updates Garage Italia Customs / Former AGIP station Piazzale Accursio
design > Mario Bacciocchi (original design), Michele De Lucchi Architects (restoration)
see project > link ; previous update > link

"Love, passion and dedication" are the ingredients at the basis of the Garage Italia project, according to its founder Lapo Elkann. On Tuesday morning, the Italian entrepreneur unveiled the new headquarters housing his customization service for cars, motorcycles, airplanes, helicopters and boats.

The project was officially launched in March 2015. At that time, Elkann acquired a historic former Agip station, located in Piazzale Accursio and commissioned in 1952 by Enrico Mattei, the founder of the Italian national fuel company ENI. Originally designed by Mario Bacciocchi, the location was completely restored and renovated by architect Michele De Lucchi.

"This building is a symbol of the greatness of this country and today we are here to return it to its original splendor"said Elkann, who first collaborated with De Lucchi on the creation of the FIAT Cafè at Milan's Triennale Design Museum in 2005. "I want to thank Milan, which is a city living a moment of incredible excitement and which is clearly showing how much this country has to give and offer to make the entire world dreaming about its beauty, creativity and excellence."

In order to create a space "open to the city" Garage Italia not only features areas dedicated to the customization services, such as the unique Materioteca, a space where clients can explore the different materials and fabrics to personalize their vehicles, but also includes a range of entertaining spaces.

In particular, Elkann teamed up with Michelin-starred chef Carlo Cracco who will manage both the bar at the entrance, which features a massive counter overlooked by a spectacular huge cloud of 1,100 model cars, and the restaurant located on the second floor. Installed into a trapezoidal room, it is dominated by a central cocktail space created by using the body of a Ferrari 250 GTO car. Leather sofas run around the perimeter of the room, where the small tables are matched with Cassina chairs decorated with graphics inspired by the world of car racing.

An electric toy track with 22 Formula One mini models was also installed on the ceiling, which is embellished with lamps mimicking car mufflers. In addition, a VIP area recalls the sophisticated interiors of a Riva Aquarama motorboat, which also inspired the high-end restrooms, where wood is combined with sinks and sanitary fittings in a chic copper tone.

"I created a menu which is deeply linked with Lapo's memories. I reworked Enzo Ferrari's favorite dish, the salad of the Lawyer [the nickname of Giovanni Agnelli, Lapo Elkann's grandfather] the vegetables from the garden of Marella Agnelli [Lapo Elkann's grandmother,]" said Cracco. "They are classic dishes which were used to be eaten by that big family and they embrace different regional traditions, from North to South."

The dishes, which feature evocative names, such as Paris-Dakar and Bermuda Triangle, are listed on a creative menu reproducing the shape of a tachometer.

The building, which on the facade was embellished with two neon light lines referring to the Fifties' original ones, also includes a terrace. "There, I wanted to create a tropical environment with plants and furniture developed in collaboration with Unopiù because I want people who spend some time there to feel on vacation" Elkann said, revealing that his decision to combine different influences in the venue, from the car world to the nautical theme, were inspired by a book of his great-grandfather titled "FIAT. Earth, Sea, Sky". "In a teeny tiny scale, I want to bring back that concept in the contemporary motion industry which is living a period of huge changes" said Elkann, who aims to bring the Garage Italia project format to other countries around the world.

Inside the headquarters, which features a black concrete floor and navy blue walls juxtaposed to glass and iron structures inspired by traditional garages, visitors have also access to a professional driving simulator by Allinsports and have the chance to buy customized clothes, accessories and gadgets at the shop.

Update "Library of Trees" Public Park
design > Inside Outside Studio
area > 90,000 sqm / 968,752 sqft
investment > 14 million euros
see project > link | previous updates > 1-2-3

New public park in Porta Nuova. The main idea of this project was to design a new form of public park that represents a modern and stylish version of the botanic garden. The park was designed considering three concepts: linear paths to efficiently connect the different urban areas, irregular fields with different functions, and circular forests with different tree species.

CityLife could be enriched with two new residential towers in the future, but we don't know what Generali -the developer- want to do. Near CityLife, there is another ongoing project that envisages the construction of a residential tower + retail. The area at north of CityLife may also be redeveloped by demolishing old pavilions of Milano City Fair.
