Ever since I went to Expo '67 in Montreal as a kid, I've been a huge fan of world expos. It looks like Milan is really rising to the challenge, and I look forward to visiting next year.

The docks - Project
The dock , as the Milanese have seen for four centuries , had been promoted and implemented in 1603 by the Spanish governor Pedro Enríquez de Acevedo, Count of Fuentes ( 1525-1610 ) : he was leaning against the new walls and they go along with the perimeter of the southwestern summit and , beneath them , a gap allowed access to the new Viarenna basin , the basin was located , as now, in part, on the same surface where before there was a pond Sant'Eustorgio , whose exact location has never been determined . Certainly, as the dock, this received the Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese gave water , or rather to its initial stub ( 1564 ) : the mouth of the first and the second incile are only a few tens of meters and it does not seem possible that they immediately shifts .

The western end of the dock . With the work of 2010 has become a small basin in its own right . On the bottom of the old mouth of the Olona
In September 2004 , the municipality of Milan granted the area of the dock ( the entire portion west of the Naviglio Grande) to a company that was to build a parking garage underground : the soil was considered to be devoid of archaeological interest .

On the contrary , at the beginning of the excavation findings emerged that required the intervention of the superintendent and the arrest of the work : it is the foundations of the Spanish walls and a wooden platform which was attributed to the pavement of the original basin Viarenna . In the absence of suitable recovery techniques and more precise , the remains were reinterred in the conditions of discovery for conservation purposes and the municipality , state of the art has not taken any decision. These discoveries within the perimeter of the dock partially put into question the ways in which the Count of Fuentes did make the dock itself, the historical reconstruction that we reported in the previous paragraph , it was until 2010 the only universally accepted.

Now the restoration and reclamation are an integral part of a project related to EXPO 2015. Will be restored to the banks , the market and the fish market. You will also be pedestrianized area around the Porta Ticinese.

MUBA

There is already by twenty years. Floating and migrant reality, but not ethereal or random. Strong ideation of different exhibitions, replicated in dozens of cities around the world and brought to the attention of a wide audience.

Now finally finds a new house the Foundation Children's Museum of Milan, which crowns the dream of turning into permanent space for youth creativity. On January 24, the MUBA, becomes happy tenant of the historic Rotonda della Besana. An eighteenth century complex, which was acquired by the city in the fifties of last century, and turned into exhibition context, in which have passed the various Bruno Munari and Karl Lagerfeld, Julian Schnabel and Anish Kapoor.

The convergence between the purely exhibition area and a large garden, a spectacular treasure in the heart of the city. Interactive exhibits with a profile colorful and funny, which calls through a playful approach to reflect on the concept of creativity. A key theme in depth in the green thanks to the simultaneous exhibition created by designer Paolo Ulian.

PL Tower Hotel

An abandoned office building in Via Pirelli, is being converted into a hotel. The building introduces innovative elements, while remaining unchanged the historical configuration. Made of metal and stone elements plays with the transparency of glass embedded in the sign of a map marked by chromatic tones and burnished bronze. The vertical character of the building is indicated by the textures and monochrome of the openings, the new square in front of the entrance, allowing the building to become the new iconic element in densely built urban context of the neighborhood. The hotel will offer 145 rooms spread over eleven floors.

Really nice! I like thay they preserved the vertical emphasis of the building instead of covering it with random cladding as they usually do. The roof feature will also end up classy.

I also like the wooden facade of the Giax Tower. Very modern.

Totally agree

The entire area around building in the last post is undergoing a great renovation.
The entire area was planned in the 50s and 60s to be a huge business district. However, something went wrong and only half of the area was built. The other half was left unbuilt for 50 years!

Only in recent times that huge hollow part of the city was finally built, with Porta Nuova development and skyscrapers.
Since Porta Nuova made real estate values become higher, a lot of the 50s and 60s part of the business district is undergoing redevelopment and recladding as well. The building above is a very nice example of this

As for Giax Tower, I think it's a very nice surprise! It's a standalone highrise in the northern part of the city, and its cladding is a lot better than I expected

I just love what they did with these towers. Great renovation that suits Milan's new ultra-modern architecture.

It was approved the energy efficiency plan. A2A will improve light service, cutting the costs. Will be installed LED and light emitting diode. Approximately 140,000 "lighting". City's Government "promote new energy and environmental policies capable of achieving an improvement of the city". 80% of plants will be replaced until April 2015. In order of importance: historic city center, north-west area, main access roads to city center and other suburbs. The units will have criteria of 'homogeneity; functionality; low visual impact; protection of light's role in the landscape, respecting planning restrictions and enhancing the historic monuments and buildings".
