The project is composed by two residential eco sustainable buildings. The architectural composition of both buildings have been conceived to be in line with the nearest old palaces.

DOSSIER: "Milan can change like London" says Catella

The "father" of Porta Nuova project, Manfredi Catella, is unstoppable. In a few years, he has been able to bring foreign investments in the city: from Qatar Investmentent Authority, to the sheiks of United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan. But his next challenge is Coima Res, the new Italian real estate company dedicated to the development of new highrises and skyscrapers.


No time to catch the breath, he is back on track strongest than ever. "We are developing a new dedicated real estate development fund, I'm talking with potential investors" said Catella. "Our company was listed in Milan's stock exchange in early March. We are looking to new areas that can be developed: from Scalo Farini to Porta Romana, from Porta Genova to Lambrate. Porta Nuova and CityLife have proven that the city is evolving in the right direction".

Foreign investors are coming in Italy? "At moment, they mainly go to London or Paris. When they come here are more timid, careful". Why? "They still have little or no experience in Italy. Also they are worried about the 'burocratic system' and have found real estate operators that are still young in terms of reputation. But in a long term, foreign investors will invest more here, like already happens abroad. The potential is enormous: in circulation there is money to redevelop our entire country. We need a careful public planning and targeted incentives. I do not see why Milan can not become a new London, which twenty years ago was not the one of today".

Milan is definitely moving towards that direction, and to me it's on the right side of history right now. We'll see how the city will eventually develop, but I'm optimistic.

Updates Melchiorre Gioia 22 Tower

Although we don't have enough info regarding the new skyscraper that will rise in Porta Nuova district, the developer has already started the demolition work of old Palazzo INPS.

The iconic skyscraper, with new pedestrian spaces, will be built in Viale Melchiorre Gioia. The project is designed by archistar Cesar Pelli and Italian architecture firm Caputo Partnership. Official design and height not unveiled yet.

The project aims to build a new residential complex, preserving the perimetral walls of the old building bordering the road affected by constraints of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage. The new residential complex is located in front of Carcere San Vittore, near the Church of San Vittore al Corpo, and not so far from iconic Basilica of Saint Ambroise.

This is the renovated MilanoSesto masterplan with five residential towers of different heights: 102 m (x1), 92 m (x2), 82 m (x2).
MilanoSesto is an huge project in north Milan which includes residences, shopping mall, hospital/research center, schools, services and park.

The project provides for the construction of three residential buildings of different heights in Porta Romana. The 49 apartments are distributed around an inner court which represents the vibrating heart of the residences.




The design aims to evoke the typical Milanese homes but in a modern key.






The eco-sustainable buildings in energy class A, will be built with high-quality materials like Gessi, Listone Giordano, Greenwood and Oikos; the most advanced home automation systems by BTicino; and furnished with Ernestomeda kitchens, Lema living rooms, Flos lamps, etc.






Also the residences include common areas: co-working spaces and a gym with Technogym products.

DOSSIER: English fund turn former garage into a luxury shopping centre

The former garage in Via Bagutta was bought by an English private equity fund. Hayrish has spent 60 million euro for the acquisition of the property. Built in the 30s, the Rationalist building (25 meters high, 8 storeys + 1 level underground) spans over an area of 5,000 sqm.




The building was used as multi-level parking for the VIPs. In the past, due to its location between Piazza San Babila and the Golden Quadrangle, the building attracted the interest of different fashion brands and not only: Armani, Ralph Lauren, the sheikh Majed Al Sabah, the British department store Harrods...

Thanks an important investment, the building is expected to become a luxury shopping centre with boutiques, restaurant, showroom, Spa on the terrace.

DOSSIER: The Floating Piers






100,000 square meters of shimmering yellow fabric, carried by a modular floating dock system of 220,000 high-density polyethylene cubes, undulate with the movement of the waves as The Floating Piers rise just above the surface of the water of the Iseo Lake.






A 3-kilometer-long walkway was created. The piers are 16 meters wide and approximately 35 centimeters high with sloping sides. The fabric continues along 2.5 kilometers of pedestrian streets in Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio.








"Those who experience The Floating Piers will feel like they are walking on water – or perhaps the back of a whale" said Christo. The Floating Piers was first conceived by Christo and Jeanne-Claude together in 1970. It is Christo's first large-scale project since Christo and Jeanne-Claude realized The Gates in 2005, and since Jeanne-Claude passed away in 2009. The project was funded entirely through the sale of Christo's original works of art.
