If I am allowed to vote for the one most overrated building only, then I would say ESB. Second to ESB comes Taipei 101. Sears Tower and the WTC are overrated too, but they are not ugly (not gorgeous either).

I don't think that Burj Dubai or any building that is under the construction stage is eligible of being overrated, simply because they are not done yet.

I don't know what you're talking about, but the thread is about buildings and not "projects". And believe me, the ugly buildings in Dubai that are actually completed are "not" recognized as beautiful structures, therefore they can’t be overrated. Mention what buildings are in your mind and don’t swing around the topic.

People have different tastes and I respect that. Burj Al Arab might be the most overrated to some of you, but I think it is the most beautiful tall structure in the world. Not just its unique appearance, but its location, surroundings and its interiors. BAA at night is something I can't stop staring at - outstanding.

In my opinion, if you had built Petronas towers in New York City instead of the WTC, they would have looked just as imposing, and they wouldn't have been big ugly boxes. That, to me, tells me which of the two is most overrated.

The Sears Tower for me aswell, the design doesnt really do anything speical and unlike the old WTC's it doesnt have the simplistic form to amplfy its height.

WTC
Petronas
Taipei 101

We should have an underrated thread too, unless it's already been done. Has it?

I Agree IMO it looks like a big tacky fabergé egg, and before any of the british forumers jumps on me saying how great and innovative its design is and how it has revolutionised London skyline and starts numbering all the awards it has won I want to make clear this is my PERSONAL and subjetive opinion .

Well Chicago invented the steel skyscraper, are you all mimicking us? And yes, WTC was nothing special. Its one of the only buildings to look better on Sim City than it does real life.

Definitelly ESB. I even now have dificulties to identify that tower and hardly anyone knows that outside of USA.

At least WTC were an icon for the Manhatam skyline and NYC.

I don't think that the Empire State building is overrated at all, it's been the top 10 tallest building for the last 75+ years now, it's an amazing engineering feat to have completed huge building during that time, and especially during america's depression

I was going to comment on those who called the ESB overrated, but it would be impossible to debate anyone who holds that opinion. It's just too ridiculous.
The ESB defined skysraper 50 years before any other country even had a real skyscraper. It can't be overrated if it had no competition for 50 years.
And I doubt if any other scraper in the world is as famous. And I'm talking about people who know nothing about skyscrapers. Not those who belong to these forums.

I personally have never been very taken my BoC in photos, but is one of my favorites in Simcity3000.

2IFC. It has teeth on top. Like a monster. UGlY. And slightly disturbing. From affar, when you can't tell there are teeth, looks nice, but I know the truth. and its a big fat turn off.

If you look at the Bank of China.. it's not easy to draw, let alone build. The sheer craziness of it's dimensions alone should merit it as one of the greatest skyscrapers of all time. Add in the fact that it's one of the tallest buildings in the world and you have something very special.

Underrated: Scotia Plaza / Commerce Court West / AIG
