It's really sad to see American corporations dominating Manila like this. Really, guys. This isn't cool. It's sad. Americans hate these corporations. We don't want to be known for them. We don't want to be associated with them. We find them tacky. No American would want to live in a building with a McDonald's. That's grotesque. I wish you guys would stop trying to make yourselves out to be a cartoonish tourist destination and start trying to honor your own unique culture. Build buildings for your own people, not hotels for us. Appreciate local businesses, not disgusting and ruthless American corporations. Americans just feel sorry for you, to be honest.

What? MM is booming. It's because of the huge demand from Filipinos themselves. I highly doubt it has anything to do with attracting tourists, American or not. If it did, the skyscraper boom would've surely burst by now, and never reached its current level of activity.

First of all, I agree with you that you have the freedom of expression. However, all educated American regardless of race will not make any comments the way you express yourself. If you read again what you wrote, It doesn't make sense. You said "American hates American Corporation" and you said " Americans just feel sorry for you" Why do feel sorry about Filipinos? Is it because the economy of the country is unbelievably sky roofing? Or you might be another FilAm whose parents left for green pasture and now you are jealous.

He feels sorry because of all the big corporations dominating the streets. McDonalds, Paris Hilton, etc... it's the same thing in Holland as well. Starbucks opening everywhere. I hate it as well. We shouldn't let the big companies dominate every corner on the street. The city looses it's own identity and it's becoming more 'american'. And to be honest, I don't really like this. (neither do people like Syndic). If a place is full of Mc Donalds or Paris Hilton shops/hotels I try to avoid it. It's the same in China as well. People standing in line to get into a newly opened McDonalds because it's 'Western'. I don't get this obsession with these american brands. They are fine, as long as the don't swallow the entire world, which they do.

Seeing most pictures of Manila really makes me want to visit it. But with every McDonalds I see in those pictures, It makes me want to go less. Sadly, Manila is not the only city that is under 'americanisation'. It's sickening. If i'm travelling in Asia I don't want to eat at *** McDonalds, I want to see Asian shops and restaurants. Again, it's not something specific to Manila, it happens in Holland as well.

For me people having this kind of mentalility does have insecurity to American domination. As a Filipino, I see to it as an advantage. Anyway though as many American corp there are in the Phils they still don't dominate the market. One example, McDonalds is # 1 food chain in most countries except for countries such as Phils. Etcetera...

Lets hope it stays that way. Globalisation has its advantages but this is really a downside. I really don't want to have the EXACT same shops and restaurants in every big city in the world. But more and more it looks we go that way.

(neither do most americans like Syndic).

You got to understand business point of view. There's nothing wrong to bring any good brand name from any existing country in the world to the Philippines. You got to remember that the owners of those businesses that you don't want to exist in the Philippine are Filipinos not foreigners that includes the Americans. Ad BTW, may I ask you why you hate American brand name.

Who are you to say that you don't want to have EXACT same shops and resto in every big city in the world? I can not even understand your concern if you are not even Filipino. Are you?
