that's true for sure! the Malay names are mostly left at Barangay level, natural features and smaller island names. Even among the Muslim Filipino community, alot of town and Barangay placenames are in Spanish: eg, the mostly Muslim Filipino Island of Basilan in Sulu, has Isabela as its capital!, as well as the Samal town of Rio Hondo in Zamboanga, and not forgetting the Globo de Oro Mosque in Manila. The Spanish influence is felt throughout the country, and that is the main difference in seeing the Philippines as opposed to its immediate neighbours, as when one crosses over to Borneo, every main placename is in Malay
