Wow - what a beautiful part of the world. Love that shot of the train with the Coconut Palm in the Background. Didn't know they grew like that in the Highlands.

What a special place - looks very dry though looking at the Barron Falls - not much water.

Cairns is such a paradise. Kuranda Station is the most beautiful train station on the planet. THE GARDEN OF EDEN.

Driving up there will be a breeze when the New Kuranda Range Duplication is completed in about ten years.

The Rainfall usually surpasses around 1000mm a year, gets way more than what cairns usually does, it stays pretty much on the Mountain, but rainfall has declined a bit lately.

yes, brings back memories. i spent my honeymoon in Cairns and Palm Cove. We were one of the first to use skyrail back in 96.
i think highest tower is 50m above rainforest floor.
really great way to see forest. magnificent views.
Kuranda itself was amazing. i think i did a bungee there? really nice spot.
ive had a vision of this type of skyrail thing in Umina.llol
thanks aussie buoy
fukin greenies get there hands into everything. they tried to stop this wonderful attraction years ago.dont they understand the 25x 40m towers virtually do nothing to forest + it gives tourists a better understanding of the forest.

The Kuranda Railway Station is a treat for anybody. It is wonderfully overgrown with Bougainvillas and orchids. Well worth a look for anybody travelling up to Cairns. Kuranda is probably Cairn's best asset for those wanting to see what a beautiful old Queensland tropical township looks like.

Another of my personal favourites in NQ is most definately Innisfail, it is an Art Deco treat. Possibly with exception of Griffith and Leeton there is not a more intact 1930's township in Australia. But what sets Innisfail apart is it's surrounding mountains, canefields and the broad Johnson River.

Mean rainfall of Cairns is 1,992.8 millimetres (78.5 in).[10] The township of Babinda at the southern end of the city is one of Australia's wettest towns, recording an annual rainfall of over 4,200 millimetres (165.4 in).
do you have pics of babinda ? so much rain per year ? its incredible !

Great shots there Aussie Bhoy, thanks for posting them!

Do any locals use the train or Skytrain as a means of transport, or are they only used by tourists?

Tourists. Probably a bit too expensive to use for commuting, and rather slow.
The only rail based public transport are the services to Brisbane (and locations along the way) operated by QR. (Tilt Train and Sunlander). IIRC there is one departure a day.

Tourists really. When there is a cyclone and residents of Kuranda need to get up the range highway and it is cut Skyrail have been known to offer $10 trips so everyone can get home. Of course locals go when the rellies and friends come up from down south.
