Erawan Museum - Samutprakarn

In the industrial suburbs south-east of Bangkok, a highly successful, if slightly eccentric, businessman ordered the construction of a monumental building sculpted in the shape of the three-headed elephant Airavata ridden by the Hindu god Indra. The businessman was Lek Viriyapant, who was also responsible for conceiving the Ancient City and Sanctuary of Truth.

PLACE: Erawan Museum
LOCATION: Sukhumwit Road as you enter Samut Prakan
OPENING HOURS: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
ADMISSION: 150 baht for adults, 50 baht for children. 50 baht baht for visiting the grounds only.

Close-up of the intricate work on the stairs within the museum.

Decorated statue of a carp in one of the ponds around the museum.

Waterfall decorated with statues of mythical beasts in the grounds of the museum.

Another view of a waterfall with mythical beasts cavorting in it's mists.

Closer view directly at one of the three heads of the elephant building that is the Erawan Museum.

Great thread Kiku!!

I watched a TV documentary a year ago about how they built this gorgeous structure. Very interesting!

I will surely visit there one day soon.

How about the entrance fee??

Have anyone ever posted this building in the world forum???

I think it deserves to be there.
Maybe in "rate our architecture".

This is a jewel of marvel, The tri-head elephant looks incredibly realisitic. Not mentioning the "impossibility" on how would it standing up holding it's heads weight.

Just wonderful!!

I was also there last week, for the first time Great photos Kiku!! It really shows every part of that place in a pleasant way. I have to go back some time, although it takes some time to get there.

The entrance fee to the park is 50 baht, or 150 baht if you also want to enter the elephant.

It's Bangkok's own little statue of liberty.. if only the surroundings were prettier

IMO, Samut Prakarn is a mess.

Full of industry factory, crowded, polluted, poor maintained road, etc.

Will BTS Samrong be extended to it???

Well, Erawan Shrine has become Samrong versionof Erawan Shrine ... not many localpeople from rags to riches have come to that shrine to get the lucky numbers for biweekly lotto though

Atleast, Erawan Shrine has functioned as the ONLY public park for thsoe who lvie in Samrong area ....
