Empire State--a movie star once again

Did anyone see the King Kong remake? Yup the original helped the ESB become famous, not that it was really necessary. Obviously the movie has been advertised everywhere. I saw it 3 times, and the Empire State Building looked awesome,in it's depression area environment, which is just after the building was finished around 1932. The one thing I did'nt like is that throughout the whole movie, the Empire State's name was never mentioned, but it was just assumed everyone knew which skyscraper this was that Kong climbed. I asked a few young people if they knew the name of the building and I got one (don't know) and one {World Trade Center?} Too bad that the WTC is the main skyscraper of this generation that is most commonly known because of 911. The ESB is more well known and among the most famous buildings in the world. King Kong and the ESB go together like the Lone Ranger and Tonto, except Tonto's name is never mentioned.

Is that the real ESB in the picture, it looks weird (computer-animated)?

I don't really care about the new King Kong movie even if it's Peter Jackson!

Yes, it's computer processed. They've removed all "after-ESB" buildings. Uhm, maybe not all, only big as I see. Look at thesee small buildings in the background, I thins there are a lot of modern buildings

I thought the ending was one of the few possitive thingz the story. There was no other way out. Unless they'd made the ending about King Kong returning to the island or finding another island and finding out that there were more apes like himself, which would of course be blindingly stupid.

Great movie though. I normally don't like big Hollywood movies or action, and I'Ęm about to vomit when "the hero" normally takes control, spws out a one-liner and starts kicking ass, but when Kong kicked those T-Rex' asses, I felt like standing up in my seats and screaming "GO KONG! WOOHOO!".

ESB is an icon. I often think about what would have happened if it was ESB rather than WTC that had been knocked down. I think it would have made NYC somehow seem impotent.

Anazing what they can do with a computer, isn't it? THe main reason I'd want to see the picture is the background "scenery" of NYC, which I suppose proves that I'm an architecture addict...

If that's Kong himself, perched by one of the wings at the base of the spire, he's a lot smaller than I'd have expected?...

I agree with you, Kobtke, about the iconic status of the Empire State, which not only has a lot more "class" (though the twins were impressive), but rose as a testimony to perserverance during hard times.

The movie was great!
ESB on the cinema screen looked much more realistic than on that picture. The shots of New York were amazing.

I saw King Kong climbing ESB on Late Night with Conan O'Brien ... then Jim Carrey followed him on the top and started bitting the crap out of him, but then the Brokeback Mountain cowboys came up and all four started getting jiggy ...
