Are there no codes for the amount of sunlight a certain enclosed space has to receive in order to do a certain job? I'm pretty sure this is in place in Holland, and doesn't seem to outlandish. Don't get me wrong, this tower looks amazing, but it also seems weird completely cutting off windows!

I am really looking forward to this one...WAY better than the parking garage that used to be there. :-]

There wasn't a parking garage on that site, it was a 30 or so Y/O surface parking LOT. Talk about an under-utilized piece of PRIME land!

In the US it's not required to have sunlight at a workspace, if I am correct. In some european countries (germany and holland 100% sure) you indeed need to have a % daylight through windows.

So unlike in the countries, buildings in the US often have inclosed rooms with no sunlight. This also goes for China, Dubai and whatevernot.

So building a 500m scraper with a 60x60m footprint is very difficult and would (if possible) result in loads of architectural 'gimmics'.

Perhaps not, but in the US most of us actually get to keep about 80% of the money we earn.

I can't believe I never noticed that firewall! At any rate, dozens (maybe hundreds!) of other buildings in Chicago are built immediately adjacent to one another, so I wouldn't be too worried about the neighbors guys.

actually not all windows of the neigbour-building will be covered!
if u look at the renders, then u can see there is a setback between
the floors "11P" and "12H"

.

Small picture of the cladding being tested. Compliments of Honte from SSP:

^That is NOT on the building yet. Just testing at the manufacturer.

great update photos. I love counterpoint of the bright red crane, the bare concrete and the crystal clear blue sky. Was in chicago in May, and back again in early Dec, so hoping to see this at least 10 storeys up and climbing.
