With that siad, I don't think wv running into some minor financial problems, even though it has sold enough units, is any evidence that the city cannot support these high end condos. Look at the times we're in. There are several other factors that should be considered before making that observation. In other words, I think your observation is weak and very inaccurate. Btw, financing has been secured and they're just waiting to close on the loan, which should happen sometime in june. In the mean time, lets just hope all goes well.

don't be so sure.. 'waiting to close' is not 'closed'..

i left Houston in 1984.. they had the same optimism.. skyscrapers went up like weeds.. ( look at the year completed for houstons top buildings.. almost all 1980 - 1984).. they built 90,000 new homes that year. BUT.. the week i left, the paper reported a high rise.. the Bank of the Southwest building http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=...houston-tx-usa
was put on hold.. (they had torn down a 21 story building ( Texas Tower ) to make room for this despite the fact there were empty lots three blocks away.. but it didn't matter, money flowed like water).. 24 years later, the houston skyline is almost unchanged.

never happen here? don't be so sure. everything going up is condos.. not healthy.

Be assured that this project is indeed on HOLD. It will restart in June. I've had several conversations with the folks at Teng and they continue to sell units. One does not find this level of BS speculation on SSP. Yes the credit market is terrible. Yes this project will be fully funded by June. Enough speculation. Go back to thinking about UFO's and the Kennedy assassination...

Wrong. 300 North LaSalle, 353 North Clark, and 155 North Wacker, just to name a few, are exclusively office towers. Aqua is mixed office/retail/condo... And they are all U/C at this time.

And don't forget the BCBS vertical expansion, too.

Nice diagram, but I think you have some info mixed up. That is the LaSalle-Wacker Building (1930), not the Bankers Building.

"office/retail/condo" <<<<< translation of "office" in this complex: 200 square feet for the leasing agent.

Speculation? they do NOT have funding. those who think otherwise are the ones doing the speculating.

This previous picture had confused me on a glimpse; like "wow... the tower has grown and two more cranes", but it's clearly a 2-in-1-view with 300 North Lasalle on top. And core-top and crane of Waterview Tower in front don't look busy on May 13th. As I bet that the Chicago members like harryc or Retrograde would've posted instantly any change on the site, the project must still be on hold at the moment...

The anchor tenants for the LaSalle and Clark towers are existing law firms, and the first 2 tenants for the Wacker building are coming from other Loop buildings. We might gain a few new high-tech office towers, but that doesn't automatically mean a rise in the number of downtown office tenants. More likely, it will mean higher vacancy rates for older office towers, and possibly more condo conversions.
